CHC members participated in Reverse Tashlich in the run-up to Yom Kippur, returning to Charlesworth Reserve to remove litter from the wetlands and enjoy the recovering urban park, well timed with the weather treating them to perfect conditions for it.

What's Reverse Tashlich? Check out this article for an overview:

We had a great Hanukkah party this past weekend, with tasty sufganiot and latkes. Thanks to everyone who brought their own special recipes, and to our two stove-bound board members for slaving away in the kitchen to make 9 kgs (!) of latkes. The Kahoot was indeed a "hoot", and congrats to the people's choice winner for her award-winning latkes!

Great meeting some new people and celebrating with old friends!

To celebrate Shavuot last Sunday, members organised a hike at Victoria Park and afterwards a potluck with Jewish learning sessions led by Mia and Shane.

It was a bit cool but a good time; a bit of a daytime Tikkun Leil Shavuot!

Today, local and further afield Jewish leaders met with representatives of the Christchurch Muslim community to formally gift over $1.1m from the international Jewish community for the victims of the attacks on March 15th. This gift, known as the NZ Abrahamic fund, will support victims and foster a closer relationship between our two faiths.

We started the day showing the Muslim leaders and Jewish Delegation, as well as media, around the Synagogue. We then continued to the Al-Nur Mosque, where we were told of what happened, as well as shown how they pray and organise their congregation. The Imam spoke beautifully about how we are very similar in both religion and humanity. The tour then went on to the Linwood Mosque, and then a ceremony in the Civic Offices with the Mayor, Lianne Dalziel.

We took this opportunity to get to know our Muslim cousins, and we hope to keep working to bring our two communities closer together.

Our condolences go out to the families and our friends from the Muslim community here in Christchurch. Today is a tragic day for us all in New Zealand. We stand together as one people. One society. Our prayers go out to you.
