Durham Street Methodist Church

Durham Street Methodist Church Officially we are the Christchurch Central Methodist Parish, but most people know us as Durham Street Our Sunday Gatherings are in Aldersgate Chapel at 10:00am.

Durham Street Methodists | Open hearts, Open minds, Open doors |

We love diversity and are committed to radical inclusion, regardless of age, gender-diversity, sexual orientation, race, disability. We also revel in the insights that deepen our own faiths from working with people of other faiths and none. Our amazing new, multi-purpose Aldersgate centre was rebuilt following the 2009 and 2010 ear

thquakes that destroyed out buildings and killed three people. We have been based back at Aldersgate since Christmas Day 2019. Our very first service in the original stone building was held on Christmas Day, 1864. For more info, click on our website: www.aldersgate.org.nz.

You can’t address homelessness by just moving people on…

The government has announced it will give police new powers to issue so called move-on orders - as a way to legally get disruptive individuals out of a particular area like the CBD. It's expected to impact the way they police homelessness in particular, in Auckland and across the country. But once y...

Over the 40 Days of Lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter Day, you are invited to engage with 14 questions that Jesus asked his followers during his ministry, selected and interpreted by James Burklo (United Churches of Christ, Simi Valley). The selection "is intended for open-ended, contemplative, prayerful personal meditation and group conversation. The questions are presented out of their contexts in the gospel narratives .. You can fit Jesus' questions into your own contexts, imagining how they address or challenge your own life experience. The questions are... tossed into our minds to break us loose from habits that get in the way of Divine Love. There are no right answers. It may be enoughto mindfully contemplate the questions rathr than trying to answer them!" https://progressivechristianity.org/resource/14-questions-for-lent/.

Congratulations to Rev Dr Patricia Allan, whom we had the privilege of borrowing from the Anglicans from 1998 to 2004, when we still met in the old stone ‘wedding cake’ church.

Our most recent church history “Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors” records in 2001 a TV camera was present in our church seevice filming Patricia Allan for a 60 Minutes programme about Louise Deans, ‘Whistle Blower’ as Patricia, “along with the congregation of the time, was willing to speak out about abuse cases and seek justice for such victims as Louise Deans, in church settings.”

Reverend Dr Patricia Allan learnt of sexual abuse and harassment within the Church while she was preparing for ordination.
