Imagine getting invited to a wedding feast which, in Jesus’ day, was the peak of the social calendar… and that feast had 700 litres of w**e available?

If there was 100 guests, that’s 7 litres per guest.

Whoa…. 😳

That’s the story of John chapter 2, and to further pique your interest, there’s a connection to the creation narrative and red heifers 🤔

This is a mikvah, which would have been filled with “living water”, a bit like a bath, and was used for purification. You can see the steps leading down into it, whereby you would enter and fully immerse yourself under the water.

The verse pictured is from Jeremiah 17, and we’ll be linking all of this to John the Baptist as we continue our line-by-line study of the Gospel according to John.
