Hi everyone,

Just an update on the Stake Young Men’s Camp.

You may have seen the weather forecast for Friday and Saturday and its looking less than ideal (showers Friday, and rain Saturday). At this stage, we are pressing on with camp preparations as if we are going ahead.

However, we are continuing to monitor weather closely and will make a final decision regarding the camp Wednesday morning, and will communicate this decision as soon as possible.

Thanks everyone for your patience and flexibility. Fingers crossed the weather clears and we’re able to go ahead as planned!

⛈️🚨

Cyclone Vaianu is on its way to the North Island and we can expect heavy downpours and damaging gale-force winds over the weekend.

If you are wanting support from your local ward, please first reach out to your ministering sisters or brothers as they are to maintain contact with the Relief Society and Elders Quorum Presidents. The Relief Society and Elders Quorum Presidents will report to Bishop who then are to report to the Stake Presidency.

The director of Civil Defence Emergency Management has advised, “If you can, make sure drains around your property are clear of waste and debris, and bring inside or tie down anything that strong winds could break or pick up. Trust your danger sense and don’t wait for official warnings. Watch for warning signs like small slips or rockfalls, water flowing out of a slope, trees or fences that start to tilt, or doors and window frames that begin to stick. Also take care around trees, which may become unstable and fall.”

Our Prime Minister has encouraged “to stock up, get supplies and tie things down.”

Vector advised to “charge mobile phones, torches and power banks and check on any medical backup plans. Most importantly, if you see any fallen or low-hanging power lines at any time, stay well away.”

Auckland Council has issued important points for what we can do to prepare:

🔵Pack a grab bag with essentials like medication, warm clothes, chargers, snacks and water (remember babies and pets)
🔵Make a plan with whānau and friends about what you would do and where you would go if unsafe to stay
🔵Make sure you’ve got a torch and batteries, keep your phone and power banks charged and have a battery-operated radio (remember, your car radio can be an alternative)
🔵Plan travel carefully. Make sure you drive to the conditions and never drive through floodwaters or over slips.
🔵Stay up to date with weather forecasts and check AT and NZTA’s journey planners for any public transport and roading disruption.
🔵The forecast is predicting large swells and high energy waves. These conditions are not ideal for boating or shore fishing.
🔵Postpone remote walks and recreational activities at our parks and beaches until after the weekend.
🔵For tree damage on public land, go to the council’s website and ‘report a problem’ online.
🔵Report stormwater issues and flooding to the council on
09 301 0101.
🔵If you or your property are in danger at any time, phone 111 – don’t wait, natural warnings like rising floodwaters need to be acted on immediately.

We hope everyone can be safe over the weekend and receive the support they need.

Next weekend is General Conference weekend, so there won’t be services at the chapels (and no sessions streamed there).

A nice chance to watch from home — consider inviting someone over and make it a moment to connect.
