BE A CHURCH BY EXAMPLE
1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

What does "a church by example" mean? Are we a church by example? The New Testament provides us many examples about churches that is an example to us about how we should live as true and faithful believers. There are also churches that failed, not to imitate them but to learn from them so that we may not fail like them. Today, we are going to study a young church, though it is a young church, but it has the qualities that we need so that we may also become an example like them; this is the church of Thessalonica. Let us read 1 Thessalonians 1:6-8 and study what is a church by example.

What kind of church is a church by example?

A CHURCH DRIVEN BY FAITH
A CHURCH DRIVEN BY LOVE
A CHURCH DRIVEN BY HOPE

The key to spirituality depends on who's controlling our life, is it the Lord or is it us? The Thessalonian church provides us an example how we should live spiritually as believers in the Lord. A church by example is a church driven by work of faith, labour of love, and steadfastness of hope. Though the church was young and small but their testimony as believers in Christ were heard in faraway places and they became an inspiration and encouragement to neighbouring churches. We are challenged today to be like the Thessalonian believers. Let us be an example. Let us ask ourselves, is my faith "work of faith?" Is my love "labour of love?" Is my hope "unwavering and steadfast and is focused on the coming of the Lord?"

“Overcoming Lukewarmness”
-Revelation 3:14–22

Today we were reminded through the church in Laodicea that a lukewarm faith happens when we slowly rely more on ourselves than on Christ. Comfort, success, and self-dependence can make us forget our true need for God.

We also learned that trials are not meant to destroy our faith, but to strengthen and preserve it. When we stop enduring through difficulties with Christ, our passion for Him can slowly grow cold.

God desires a heart that is fully devoted, not cold, not lukewarm, but on fire for Him. May we continually depend on Christ, remain faithful through trials, and pursue a deeper relationship with Him every day.

Sardis, The Dead Church
Revelation 3:1-6
17-05-2026 Worship Service

The problem of the church in Sardis is, they pretend to be alive, but they are a dead church (nekros-lifeless). Their works speak about their spiritual condition. They appear externally alive, but they are spiritually dead. They are in darkness, and they have turned their backs from the Lord. The Lord said, “for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God.” There are only a few names in Sardis who are faithful and the Lord is concerned. However, those who overcomes are promised by the Lord that their names will not be erased from the “Lambs Book of Life”. (Our names are written in the Lamb’s book of life when we were born again)

What should they do to keep their names in the book of life?
* They must wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die.
* They must remember what they have received and heard. Keep it and repent.
* They must keep themselves pure and blameless until He comes.

The church in Sardis was once a lively and vibrant church, like wool without spot. Because they were not watchful, they drifted away from the Lord, and their unspotted lives was dyed in sin. The greatest danger to our spiritual life is to assume that we are still saved and alive when we are actually dead spiritually. The church became complacent. Therefore, let us be careful how we live. Not all physical blessings bring us closer to God. If we become complacent, this can turn our faith away from God. God warns us that our names can be erased from the Lambs book of life if we will not remain faithful to the Lord.

“ZERO TOLERANCE”
— Revelation 2:18–29

Today we were reminded through the church of Thyatira that even a loving, faithful, and growing church can slowly become corrupted when sin is tolerated. God sees not only our works and service, but also the condition of our hearts.

The message taught us that tolerating sin does not only affect one person, it can influence others, cause believers to stumble, and slowly destroy the purity and strength of the church. God calls His people to remain holy, watchful, and faithful until the end.

We were also reminded that God is merciful and gives us time to repent, but He desires genuine change and obedience from His people. As believers, we are called to guard ourselves from worldly influences and stand firm in our faith.

Let us continue to hold fast to God’s truth, walk in holiness, and strive for ZERO TOLERANCE toward sin.

Reaching the Goal of Faith
Hebrews 12:1-3

There so many students who go to college or university but only few are able to finish their study. Why? Is it because they do not have enough money? This could be one of the reasons, but this is not the major reason why many do not finish their study or degree. The main reason is because they are distracted, not focused and not serious about going to college. They have no goal, no purpose, and no plan.

What are the three BIG things that we must do to reach our goal?
WE MUST GIVE UP EVERYTHING THAT IS HINDERING US TO FOLLOW CHRIST.
WE MUST ENDURE AND OVERCOME THE TRIALS THAT WE FACING IN THIS LIFE.
WE MUST KEEP FIXING OUR EYES ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST UNTIL THE END.

Christian life is like a marathon race. There is a beginning and an end of our faith. While we are living on this earth, our Christian life and faith should always be running. As we run we should aim to be closer daily to the goal set by God for us. It is not how we begin that counts, but it is how we finish by faith in Christ. As we run this race we run by removing all things that slows us to run. We must run with determination and endurance, and finally, we must keep fixing our eyes on Jesus. If this is how we run, we shall reach the goal.

“Return to Your First Love”
-Revelation 2:1–7

Today we were reminded of the kind of love God desires from us a love that is genuine, passionate, and full of joy. Just like when we first came to know Him, our hearts were full, our faith was alive, and our love was real.

Sometimes life gets busy, but God gently calls us back, not with condemnation, but with grace. He invites us to rediscover that first love again.

Let us continue to serve the Lord with a heart that truly loves Him, not just out of routine, but out of joy and devotion.
