Matthew 18: 21-35
“But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.
“Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I cancelled all that debt of yours because you begged me to.
Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
“This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

Today we celebrate Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary

"And Mary said, 'Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.' And the angel departed from her."
- Luke 1:38

Let us pray:
Mary, most holy and loving Mother,
your name is a source of hope, comfort and grace.
Teach us to trust God as you did,
to say “yes” to His will,
and to carry His love into the world.

May your holy name remind us
that we are never alone,
and may you gently lead us closer to your Son, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
Amen.

The diocese employs a number of prison and hospital chaplains across the diocese. Last Wednesday many of them gathered to celebrate and witness the commissioning of two of their number Mannix Lopez and Stephen Middleton. It was also an opportunity to bless and give thanks to John Metherall for his years of support as the Chaplaincy coordinator. With their ministry taking place 'off site' it was a lovely opportunity for the Pompallier Centre to welcome them and their colleagues and to share this significant moment with them.

Today the wonderful Support Staff of St Mary’s School in Papakura were at the Mary MacKillop Centre in Mission Bay, with the primary RE advisors of the diocese. They celebrated the Season of Creation with Tibetan-style prayer flags for peace, along with Pope Leo’s prayer intention for September, the care of water.

This Child Safeguarding Week, we pause to reflect on the important role each of us plays in creating safe and welcoming spaces for children and young people. Together, we can foster a culture of care where every child is respected, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Season of Creation 2026 | 1 September – 4 October 🌏
The Season of Creation is a special time when Christians around the world unite in prayer and action to care for our common home. From 1 September (World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation) to 4 October (Feast of St Francis of Assisi), we are invited to renew our relationship with God, one another, and all of creation.
The Catholic Diocese of Auckland invites every parish, school, chaplaincy, family, and individual to celebrate the Season of Creation by:
🌱 Praying for creation at Mass and in our homes around this time.
🌏 Caring for our local environment through practical action.
🤝 Working together to build communities of hope and peace.
💚 Reflecting on how we can live more simply and sustainably.
For ideas on how to celebrate visit our website for more information and resources to promote the Season.
