Last year, we told the story of how Soi used his personal network in the Tongan diaspora to share the gospel using social media.
Recently, we heard an update from Soi regarding this the fruit of his evangelism. As a result of his sharing the gospel and running Bible studies online, 30 cell groups have been started up, not only in Tonga, but also in other Pacific Islands and even in New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Wales! Each of these cell groups has about 20 members or more, and they are starting to reach out themselves. One of the cell groups in California is planning an outreach trip to Seattle to share the gospel and start another cell group there.
With digital technology, missions now truly has no borders!

A Facebook live sermon went viral on Good Friday when 10,000 Tongans tuned in to hear the good news of Christ preached by Soileti Finau (Soi) in Samoa.

With most sports cancelled around the world and with universities shut down during lockdown, you’d be correct in wondering ‘how would a university based sports ministry continue’?
The short answer is Zoom! The longer answer is that all of the athletes we met with online had been going through a very difficult season. Many had lost their sports, their community, their ability to work-out, essentially all their usual rhythms had been completely disrupted.

For Athletes in Action the COVID season presented us with some new ways to do ministry. Some changes have been made purely out of necessity, with no other choice but to adapt, while others have been more prayerfully thought out. We had to ask ourselves this question, ‘what are the real needs that athletes are facing at the moment and how can we help address that need?’.

Our monthly gatherings for athletes were all moved online and we’ve had record numbers attend. Our regular prayer times have been a hit and our online presence has increased hugely!
