Today, 11th May 2025, marks a remarkable milestone—40 years of Victory Christian Church standing strong in its divinely appointed location in the heart of Auckland’s CBD.
In the early 1980s, the congregation gathered in a building on Queen Street. It was there that Senior Pastor Neville Johnson, moved by the call of God, to build a dedicated auditorium. It was a vision bold in every sense: ambitious in scope, intricate in ex*****on, and immense in cost. And yet, God made a way.
God led us to 98 Beaumont Street—a location we firmly believe was chosen by divine design. Nestled between Beaumont Street, meaning “beautiful mountain”, and the symbolic staircase behind it known as Jacob’s Ladder, this site bears a prophetic significance that cannot be overlooked.
From its construction in the early 1980s to its dedication in 1985, and later a reinstatement by NZTA in the 2010s, this property has been a testament to God's provision. Many hands and hearts have laboured across generations—through different leaderships, administrations, and seasons—all striving faithfully with the best intentions to steward what God had entrusted.
The journey over these four decades has not been without trials. The church faced formidable challenges, particularly with the mortgage. It was nothing short of a miracle that the centre secured a loan at all. Time and again, God showed His hand—through the sacrificial giving of church members, generous support from churches across Auckland, New Zealand, and even overseas. At one critical point, the building came within a breath of being lost to a mortgagee sale—only to be saved, miraculously, by a benefactor just one hour before the auction.
Today, we rejoice: this church stands mortgage-free—to the glory of God.
We celebrate not just the survival of a building, but the unwavering faithfulness of God. This place was envisioned by Him, constructed for His purpose, and preserved by His power. While we know the true church is not made of bricks and mortar but of living hearts and willing spirits, we also recognise that this property, its land, and its legacy belong to Him.
We are simply stewards—honoured to usher in a new season, preparing the ground for a fresh move of His Spirit.
To God be the glory for these 40 years—and for all that is yet to come.
