I peeked into a little book of Joy Cowley wisdom this morning - “Notes to a Friend”.
Not my usual coffee read but in this season of spending (and giving) this one seemed poignant…

Dear Friend,
Give whenever you can.
The greatest gifts in life cannot be bought with money:
the warmth of a smile;
a helping hand in need;
the ear that does not judge;
time spent with the lonely;
the sharing of a skill;
the sharing of laughter and sometimes, tears.

When we neglect another,
we neglect ourselves.
When we give to another
we give to ourselves.
That's how it works, my Friend.
The richest people on earth are those who give themselves away.

So nice to have a 20+ church choir in strong voice, loving harmony and rhythm 🤩🤩🥳

** 7pm FRIDAY & SATURDAY **

We’ve been privileged to have Sir Harold Marshall in the Mt Albert Methodist church family for 92yrs, sharing his fabulous bass voice in our choir for 75 of those.

7pm next Friday (30 Aug) & Saturday (31st) - The directors of “Maurice and I” have allowed us the privilege to show this brand new movie BEFORE its public release into Rialto cinemas.
This is in honour of Sir Harold and his incredible achievement and legacy which began with the Christchurch Town Hall - the focus of this movie.
“Maurice and I” is powerful, compelling, incredibly moving (as experienced) and poignant in light of the recent news around the Christchurch Cathedral.

Christchurch Town Hall was and still is a masterpiece and benchmark in concert hall acoustics worldwide. This is the story of how we nearly lost it… and so much more!

Church family and friends…
Hopefully you’ve taken note of this massive event hitting New Zealand in July.
The World Choir Games will see 250 choirs from across the world descending on Auckland.
250+ choirs of 20-50 singers each and their supporters and families - 11,000 singers!
Not 20 rugby or football teams.
Think of the scale of this versus a sport competition.
As a community and country THIS event needs our attention and support.

You might recognize some faces in the studio choir in the video… but focus on the words, particularly the translation of the beautiful te reo.
It is about the coming together of many people(s) and how many voices create harmony and unity.

Within the spirit of this universal harmony, the World Choir Games proudly presents its official anthem, ‘Te taukaea tangata – Breathing in, breathing out’, ...
