Holy Friday.
That day.
Two millennia ago
Stood many women.
Not a few.
Many.
They had followed.
They had cared for.
Jesus.
They were courageous to stay.
Loyal.
Faithful.
Constant.
What a comfort they must have been for Christ.
They witnessed his crucifixion, his suffering, his death. They heard his final cry “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”
One can only imagine the conflict, confusion and emotion they felt.
Then the ground shakes.
Violently.
Huge rocks split apart.
The dead rise from their graves.
Roman centurions proclaim in terror, “Certainly he was the son of God”.
Mary, Mary, Salome and many women remain.
Waiting.
Not knowing what would come next.
But we know.
The silence of Saturday.
The miracle of Sunday.
And they would too.
I love that women play a central part in the Easter story and are honoured in scripture for that. God loves his girls!!
