Welcome to the Local Kids foot spa! Tamariki really enjoyed this practical experience connected to our discussion about Jesus' last supper and how he served his friends by washing their feet.

I challenged the children to notice a way that they can serve someone in their life this week - using what they have to love and help someone else.

See you Sunday!

Check out how awesome our Local Kids self portraits look displayed in the Gold Room ❤️

Having artwork displayed gives children a sense of belonging and lets them know that they are a valued part of our church whānau.

Don't worry if you don't see your child's art displayed yet - some children are still working on them and they'll be on the wall soon

Our focus today was on reading our Bible as a way of connecting with God, as part of our term focus on what it means to be everyday people loving God and living it out.

I had a gift box that had a variety of items that belonged to one person in the room. Each item gave us more information about who the person is. If we hadn't opened the box, we never would have known all those things about them, but we opened it and discovered more about the person with each item. The Bible is a bit like that - it's a gift God gave us to be able to learn and know more about him with each but of the Bible that we read.

P.s I loved this little note that a child wrote in our small group time - she was pondering the story of Jesus feeding the 5000 - what a beautiful thing to notice about that story! Children have lots to teach us about the character of God ❤️

Beach walking this sunny Sunday morning.

Recently, we've been talking about what it means to be "everyday people loving God and living it out". Today's focus - art as a way to connect with God. We walked down to the beach and created some ephemeral art. Ephemeral art is art that is not permanent - in this instance our art will be washed away with the tide but the connection we made with God as we created will stay with us ❤️

Kia ora Local Kids whānau. I wanted to introduce you to our new friend Emmitt Otterton 🦦 our Local Kids will have turns to take him home for the week and write about home adventures in his book - the children can draw a picture of him or take a photo to stick in the book too - if you don't have a printer at home you are welcome to email photos to me [email protected] and I'll print them out for you. My hope is that our otter friend will be a fun way to strengthen church- home connections.

Here's a photo of Emmitt at our Friday picnic at the beach last week - we'd love to see you there tomorrow! From 5pm at Arkles near the Arkles Drive end of the beach 🌞

On Sunday, we began our focus on what it means to be "everyday people loving God and living it out". This week focusing on music worship and what that can look like in the everyday lives of our tamarki.

We did a fun experiment, asking the question can you see music? You could try this at home too - all you need is a bowl wrapped tightly with cling film, some music playing (or a loud voice!) and some pipe cleaner spirals resting on the cling film. Turn up the volume and watch the spirals move in response to the sound!

This experiment reminded us that our voices matter. When we sing or play music to connect with God something awesome is happening - even if our eyes can't see it.
