We are excited to be offering the Being With course for the first time this year. Drawn from the work of Sam Wells, these gatherings create a space of trust and belonging to explore faith together. It's designed for people who are curious to discover more about Christian faith or who are looking to re-discover their faith in new and spacious ways. The course is ten meetings, Saturday afternoons from 3.30pm to 5pm - starting on 9 May. We'll gather in a private home in Mangere Bridge - we'll let you know the address if you register. For more info, or to sign up to participate, pop a note in the comments below or DM us. You can get more background on the course at being-with.org - please feel free to share if you know someone who could be interested πŸ’šπŸ’š

Dear friends,
Hope you all managed to stay safe and dry overnight.
Looking at today's weather radar, there's no sign that the rain and wind warnings for Auckland are going to be upgraded to red, and it seems as though the worst of today's weather is likely to kick in around midday.
In light of that our church service will go ahead as normal, but please trust your own instincts about whether you feel safe to venture out.

If you're rostered onto something and decide not to come, please text Brenda.

You are so welcome to join us as we journey into Christ's dying and rising this Easter πŸ‚πŸŒΏ
Some of our services will be extra special as we gather with the community of St Peter's Onehunga - Palm Sunday is a combined service at our place and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday will take place at St Peter's.

Take time this Easter to sit with grief and joy, despair and hope, and to know that with all that's happening in our world right now, God is intimately present to it all πŸ’š

We are excited to be engaging with this resource by Sarah Lea West / Art this Lenten season. There's a display in the church hall where you can meditate on art, scripture, and poetry related to the Sunday lectionary readings - pop by if you're heading through Royal Oak and want to pause with this lovely material πŸ’œSome St John's folk will also be meeting together to journey with the reflections in the companion booklet - get in touch if you want to join themπŸ’œAnd check out some of the other gorgeous stuff Sarah's created - sarahleawest.art 😍

It's been a difficult start to the year for many - perhaps this year more than ever we're feeling the reality of our vulnerability, our fragility as creatures who come from dust and return to dust.

When we are marked with ash at the beginning of Lent, this isn't to berate or belittle ourselves, even less to perform abasement before an angry God, but simply to remember our need for grace, our need for the breath of God that sustains us day by day, giving life to our bodies and our spirits.

Lent is a time of tending the soil of our hearts to receive the hidden seed of Christ's dying and rising in us. Ash, while being a symbol of our repentance and desire to live more truthfully, is also a symbol of the fertilizing work of God's Spirit in our inmost being, preparing us for growth and resurrection. All these things are woven into our Ash Wednesday services, to which you are warmly invited. 10am or 7.30pm, Wednesday 18 February πŸ’œ

A warm welcome to everyone to our services of worship this Christmas. "Do not be afraid; for see - I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people...a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger. Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth, peace." Join us to give thanks for the most amazing gift of all, the love of God in human form and radiance to brighten our darkness πŸ’›
