A "yarning circle" is a practice borrowed from Indigenous Australian tradition — a structured, respectful space for genuine conversation and listening.

We've adapted the format for the communities we serve here in New Zealand.

Vedanta NZ runs dedicated Yarning Circles for:
→ Health Professionals
→ Teachers & Educators
→ Parents
→ Workplace communities
→ Youth
→ General members

Each circle is a moderated online community for sharing insights, discussing mind & wellbeing topics, and accessing courses, events, and classes.

It's not a chatroom. It's not therapy. It's a professional peer community with a thoughtful purpose.

An honest question for this community:

"Can a person be mentally well without understanding their own mind?"

We invest enormously in physical health — nutrition, exercise, sleep. We spend a fraction of that attention on understanding the very instrument through which we experience everything.

What do you think?

→ Is mental wellbeing mainly about chemical balance?
→ Is it about behaviour and habit?
→ Is there a deeper dimension — awareness, identity, the nature of consciousness itself?

Drop your thoughts in the comments. We're genuinely curious what professionals in health, education, science, and beyond think about this.

And if this kind of conversation interests you — follow the page. We're building a community for exactly this.

We named our flagship forum "Ritam."

In Sanskrit, "Ritam" means the natural order — the rhythm and harmony that underlies all things. It's one of the oldest concepts in Indian thought, predating even the concept of dharma.

We chose it deliberately.

Because the forum isn't about imposing any particular view of wellness. It's about helping people — professionals, parents, students, clinicians — find their own rhythm. Their own balance. Their own clarity.

The Ritam Wellness Forum launches in the first week of September 2026 with panel discussions in Hamilton and Auckland, a satsang on AI and human intelligence, and a retreat on the training of the mind.

All events are open to the public. Online access is available.

In 1893, Swami Vivekananda addressed the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago and stunned Western audiences — not with mysticism, but with philosophy so rigorous it drew standing ovations from academics.

He argued that the study of consciousness deserved the same empirical rigour as physics or chemistry. He called for a "science of the mind" — a systematic investigation of inner experience, not mere belief.

"The science of the mind," he wrote, "is greater and more necessary than all the physical sciences."

130 years on, the neuroscience of meditation, the psychology of consciousness, and contemplative cognitive science are flourishing academic fields.

At Vedanta NZ, we carry that same spirit of inquiry — bringing together clinicians, researchers, educators, and seekers to explore what we actually know about the mind.

Curious where that conversation is headed this September? Follow the page.

Science can map every neuron firing in your brain — but nobody knows how that becomes experience.

This is the hard problem of consciousness, and Swami Sarvapriyananda explains why it matters — and what Vedanta has to say about it.

What is Ritam Wellness?

- A 125-acre Vedanta Retreat Centre at Glen Murray, Waikato — now established and hosting events
- Online courses on 'The Mind in the Light of Modern and Spiritual Sciences'
- A free App on both Google and Apple platforms
- A Training of Trainers programme for parents, educators, health professionals and community leaders

VedantaNZ — the Ramakrishna Vedanta Centre Auckland — has identified mental wellbeing as the primary focus of its service to Aotearoa New Zealand, and is building a comprehensive ecosystem of programmes and resources to support it. The Ritam Wellness Forum is one expression of this much larger vision.

The September events are the public face of this work. We invite you to join us — at one of the events, or simply by following along.
