Bible Scriptures |
Mataio 15 | Matthew 15:1-20
Isaia 61 | Isaiah 61:2-3
Salamo 92 | Psalm 92:7, 10, 12-15
Salamo 91 | 91:1&3

Matthew 15

That Which Defiles

1 | Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked,

2 | “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!”

3 | Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?

4 | For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’

5 | But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’

6 | they are not to ‘honour their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

7 | You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

8 | “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

9 | They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’”

10 | Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand.

11 | What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”

12 | Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?”

13 | He replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots.

14 | Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

15 | Peter said, “Explain the parable to us.”

16 | “Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked them.

17 | “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body?

18 | But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.

19 | For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

20 | These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”

Isaiah 61

2 | to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,

3 | and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

Holy Communion | Ueni Tuilaepa
Holy Communion is a sacred time of individual fellowship with God where we, as followers of Christ, remember what Jesus did for us. The bread represents His body, and the drink represents His blood. It’s a moment to pause, reflect, give thanks, and reconnect with God.

Psalm 92

7 | that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.

10 | You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured on me.

12 | The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;

13 | planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.

14 | They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green,

15 | proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.

Psalm 91

1 | Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

3 | Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

Romans 5:1-2

1 | Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

2 | through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

Sermon for today |

LIVING for JESUS!

- No one lives for themselves, no one dies for themselves.
- If you are living for Jesus, you die for Jesus.

Revelation 3:16
So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

- God strongly rebukes lukewarm faith.

What is Lukewarm Faith?
- Saying you believe in God, but He’s not at the centre of your life, your actions don’t reflect your faith.
- You’re not against God, but you’re not fully committed either.
- God isn’t after half of you, He wants something real, not surface-level belief.

2 Corinthians 4:5
For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.

- This isn’t about us, it’s about Jesus.
- It’s not about looking like a “good Christian” or getting attention.
- It’s about pointing people to Jesus and serving others.
- It's not for your glory but for God's glory!

John 12:24
Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

- If a seed stays as it is, nothing happens but when it’s buried and broken open, it grows into something greater.
- Jesus is talking about His own death bringing life but it also applies to us.

How can this apply to us?
- If you hold onto comfort, control, and your own way, you won’t grow.
- When you let go and trust God, real change begins.

RECAP |

Revelation 3:16 | calls out being lukewarm: spiritually complacent, comfortable, and not fully committed.

John 12:24 | shows why: that we hold onto our own way instead of letting go and allowing God to change us.

2 Corinthians 4:5 | brings it back to the focus: it’s not about us, it’s about Jesus.

- Lukewarm faith is the wrong posture, it’s believing in God but still living for yourself.
- The turning point is letting go, something in you has to “die” for real growth to happen.
- The result is a life that points to Jesus, not yourself.

- You can’t live for Jesus and live for yourself at the same time, one has to take the lead.
- Live full, die empty.

Bible Scriptures |
Efeso 5 | Ephesians 5:8-20

8 | For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light

9 | (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)

10 | and find out what pleases the Lord.

11 | Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

12 | It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.

13 | But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.

14 | This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

15 | Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,

16 | making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

17 | Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

18 | Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,

19 | speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,

20 | always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
