Asaph arrived at the same conclusion and said … then I went into your sanctuary O God and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked …
Truly you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over a cliff to destruction …

When we gather together as God’s people and study God’s Word TOGETHER we will see the big picture …

We see that sin catches up with everyone …

And as followers of Jesus Christ we will know that we have made the right choice …

How the world looks at God’s people

For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness … they seem to live painless lives …
Psalm 73 : 3 - 4

The psalmist Asaph struggled with this old question of why the wicked prosper …

We live in a time when people celebrate and show off their ungodly lifestyles … and like Asaph we wonder how long they are going to get away with it …

As followers of Christ we try to live by God’s Word and people make fun of us … we look at this as not being fair …

David said in Psalm 5 … Non believers can do what to do and live the way want to live … But I am going to the house of the Lord …

Happy Mothers Day …

The Truth That Sets Us Free

A disciple will carefully read study and live according to God’s Word … You are my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings … And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free …

Jesus wasn’t referring to just any truth … this is specific absolute truth found only in the Bible … the context is reading studying knowing and living God’s Word …

The truth will set us free …

Jesus prayed to the Father .. Make them holy by your truth teach them your Word which is truth …
John 17 : 17

The truth we find in the Bible is the only absolute truth we can be certain of in life …

And when we understand what God says about life, it sets us free …

The Truth That Sets Us Free

Jesus said to the people who believed in Him, .. You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings …
John 8 : 31

The word disciple comes from the root word discipline … However we typically don’t like discipline because it is hard …

We want things fast and straight away … we want things now … We don’t like waiting for anything anymore …

We can get anything online … same day delivery …

So when we read in the Bible to take up our crosses daily and follow Christ and when we realise that we need to slow down and meditate on God’s Word, it seems almost alien to us …

Yet God says … Be still and know that I am God …
Psalm 46 : 10

If we want to be real disciples of Jesus, then we need to slow down and learn to listen …

In addition to all of this, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one …

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God …

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests … With all this in mind, be ALERT and always keep PRAYING for all of God’s people …

If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall …

We now of great people in the Bible who sinned and fell away …

Abraham … a man of faith … but he lied by asking his wife Sarah to say she was his sister …

Moses … a very humble man … but he struck the rock that God told him to only speak to …

Peter … had great courage … Shouted out that he would stand with Jesus … but ended up denying Jesus three times …

We can do the same … Sometimes we have been very successful and confident that we have made it .. then we lower our guard and all of a sudden pain embarrassment loss rejection …

Be careful … An unguarded strength can be a double weakness …

Steadfast

He will do everything he can to keep you from going to church … reading your Bible … and praying …

Why ?

Because at church you get recharged with the fellowship of God’s people … and when you read the Bible and pray, you strengthen yourself in the Lord …

We need to be fiercely determined and say … No … I am going to church today … I am going to read the Word of God … I am going to pray now …

Let us be strong in the Lord …

Why is it so hard sometimes to read the Bible ? Why is it so difficult to pray ? Why is it a struggle to make it to church ?

Because Satan is doing his best to stop us … Not with the obvious demonic things … He uses little distractions in our lives … even things that seem to make sense at the time …

You don’t need to go to church this week … you can go next week …

You read the Bible yesterday … and it talks about the same things …. You don’t need to pray .. You prayed at breakfast …
