A Sunday morning, a little over 31 years ago, in a small scout hall in Takanini, gathered a man, his wife, and their eight children. One guitar, one bass, and half a set of drum kit all set up in the corner. The beginning of Gods calling that led to many fruitful years of serving the Lord. Heartaches, and heartbreaks, families coming and going, but still Gods work continued.
Today, we celebrate 31 + years of Gods faithfulness over my beautiful parents Pastor Alofa John Olago, and his precious wife Iokapeta Olago. We have seen God’s goodness throughout their ministry, and after, many years of faithful service to the Lord Jesus, labouring in His vineyard, He has passed on the office of the Pastorate to the next shepherd Pastor Molesi Saufoi and his lovely wife Vaai Saufoi.
Pastor Alofa John and his wife will continue to serve as church elders and have committed themselves to what he has described in his own words, as being “the greatest ministry that any man can have – in loving and caring for his wife”. My father’s words at home today were a blessing to hear, saying “with all due respect to Jesus Christ, our Lord, he owes the success of his ministry to his wife, who stuck by him through the happiest and most difficult years, and was unwavering in her support for him”.
This morning, he preached a sermon from Numbers 27: 15-20, in which Moses asked the Lord to provide the next leader for His people, so that they would not be as sheep without a shepherd. And in the same way that God provided Israel with Joshua, so the Lord has provided the church with Pastor Molesi and Vaai Saufoi. The Lord in His faithfulness kept them by His grace to serve many years alongside Pastor Alofa John and his wife, in the same way that Joshua was always seen to tarry at the tent of Moses. There was no doubt in His heart, that this man should take up the mantle and continue to lead Gods people towards the Promised Land – whose builder and maker is God.
We commit our dear brother and sister to the Lord and will never cease to make mention of them in our prayers. We pray also for the church – Papakura Assembly of Christ – whose head is Jesus and for whom we are all servants and fellow labourers.
Wishing you both all the very best for the ministry and look forward to savouring the fruits that you will bear in His name and for His glory!
“And the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen”.
