1 June - St Justin Martyr

Today we remember St Justin Martyr, one of the earliest Christian apologists and teachers of the faith.

Justin was a philosopher who searched seriously for truth. He found in Christ not the rejection of reason, but its fulfilment. In the second century he defended Christianity before the Roman authorities, explained Christian worship, and bore witness to the Eucharist, baptism, Scripture, and the moral life of the Church.

His writings remind us that Christian faith is not anti-intellectual. It can meet the deepest questions of the human mind, while also calling us to conversion of heart and life.

Justin’s witness finally cost him his life. He died as a martyr, faithful to Christ whom he had come to know as the true Logos, the Word of God.

May we have the same courage to seek truth, speak truth, and live truth in Christ.

St Justin Martyr, pray for us.

Sunday 31 May 2026 – Trinity Sunday

Today we keep Trinity Sunday.

We give thanks for the mystery of God revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — not as an abstract idea, but as the living reality into which we are drawn through prayer, worship, and sacrament.

26 May – St Augustine of Canterbury

Today we remember Augustine of Canterbury — missionary, bishop, and founder of the English Church.

Sent by Pope Gregory the Great in 597, Augustine came to a land shaped by older Christian traditions and emerging Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. His mission was not merely organisational, but ecclesial — to establish a visible, ordered Church rooted in the Gospel.
As the first Archbishop of Canterbury, Augustine’s work laid foundations that endure to this day in the Anglican tradition: episcopal order, sacramental life, and the integration of faith with the life of a people.

His legacy is a reminder that the Church is both missionary and institutional — called to proclaim the Gospel, and to embody it in stable, ordered forms across generations.

Sunday 24 May 2026 – Pentecost

Today the Church celebrates Pentecost, the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit empowers the Church for worship, witness, and service, breaking down barriers of fear, language, and division. Pentecost reminds us that the life of the Church is sustained not by human strength, but by the Spirit of God.

Thursday 14 May 2026 – Ascension Day

Today we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord.

Christ is exalted and reigns, not withdrawn from the world but present in a new way. The Ascension reminds us that human nature is taken into the life of God, and that the Church lives between promise and fulfilment, in prayer and witness.
