It's shocking, that when Assyria tried to take down Jerusalem, their spokesperson spoke Hebrew.
It is very likely that the spokesperson was a deported Israelite.
What the implications? - considering the enemy was using this as a tactic.
1. This enemy had once been part of the people of God.
2. He knew about spiritual things.
3. Israelites had sometimes engaged in civil war with Judah so there was a history of division. (Jerusalem was the capital of the nation of Judah).
4. Israelites had a history of idolatry (golden calf worship).
5. To hear threats in their own language, was very intimidating.
6. Hearing from an Israelite, who was speaking on behalf of their enemy, would have felt like betrayal.
7. The spokesperson knew the power of words of faith, and tried to attack that.
The reference is 2 Kings 18:19-37.
