As migrants in NZ, we aspire to be steadfast in our faith and model St. Pedro as a kind and loyal friend to everyone in need. Saint Pedro Calungsod was a young catechist and embarked on a harrowing mission to spread God's word in Guam. Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding with the natives, Calungsod died as a martyr while protecting Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores, the Spanish Priest who led t
he mission in 1668. On the 21st of October 2012, Pope Benedict XVI inscribed Saint Pedro in the saints' canon. Every 2nd of April, we celebrate the life of our youngest Filipino saint. If the feast day falls within Holy Week or Easter Week, the feast may be celebrated on the Saturday before Passion/Palm Sunday. The Devotions of San Pedro Calungsod in Auckland started in 2015 at Good Shepherd Balmoral Parish. Through the support of ACFC, kind families and friends, the nine days novena was made possible. Since then, the devotions have continued, and the image of St. Pedro Calungsod has been house visiting around several households in Auckland. Though the COVID-19 lockdown happened in 2020, the nine days novena continued through YouTube streaming. Everyone is invited to visit the YouTube channel Saint Pedro Calungsod Devotees NZ.
