The Ascension of Bahá'u'lláh is a major holy day in the Bahá'í Faith commemorating the passing of its founder, Bahá'u'lláh, on May 29, 1892. It is observed as a day of deep reflection and is one of nine holy days where work is suspended. History and Significance The Passing: Bahá'u'lláh passed away peacefully at 3:00 a.m. at the Mansion of Bahjí, near ‘Akká in present-day Israel, after a brief fever. He was 75 years old.A Life of Exile: He spent the last 24 years of His life in the prison city of ‘Akká and its surrounding area as a captive of the Ottoman Empire, having been exiled from His native Iran decades prior. Global Legacy: His passing unified a massive, diverse following. Today, the day marks the end of His earthly mission and celebrates His teachings on the oneness of humanity, global peace, and progressive revelation. How the Holy Day is Observed Solemn Gatherings: Bahá'ís worldwide gather in the early morning hours (around 3:00 a.m. local time) to pray and read scriptures. The Tablet of Visitation: Commemorations typically conclude with the reading or chanting of a special, designated prayer known as the "Tablet of Visitation" .Suspension of Work: As one of the nine supreme holy days, adherents observe it as a day of rest and devotion.
