What a beautiful day of faith, prayer, and community here at St John Vianney Parish, Hillsborough!

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful Indian Community for lovingly leading us in the Rosary, Novena, and Holy Mass in honour of Our Blessed Mother. Your dedication, devotion, and generous service bring so much joy and unity to our parish family.

As our community here at St John Vianney Parish, Hillsborough, we come together in prayer through the Holy Rosary and the Novena in preparation for the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Our Indian Community, together with the wider parish community, expresses our deep and authentic devotion to Mary through prayer, fellowship, and the beautiful tradition of dressing Our Lady in different sarees. Through this cultural expression of faith, we honour Mary as the Mother of Jesus and the Mother of us all.

Mary, Mother of All Nations, unite us as one family of God. May your maternal love bring peace to our homes, strength to our families, and deeper faith to our community.

Happy the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.”

Our Psalm today reminds us that God chooses us to be His own. Faith is a gift from God, but we are free to accept or reject that gift. God never forces us; He invites us to freely choose Him.

We see this beautifully in Mary. When the Angel Gabriel announced that she would become the Mother of God, Mary was free to say yes or no. She freely chose to trust God and said, “Let it be done to me according to your word.” Through her “yes,” Mary became the Theotokos, the Mother of God, and cooperated in God’s plan of salvation.

As we continue our Novena, let us ask Mother Mary to help us always choose God, trust in His plan, and say “yes” to Him each day.

Mary, Mother of God, pray for us. Amen.

Here at St John Vianney, Hillsborough, we are blessed to continue the beautiful tradition of celebrating a Novena in honour of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary; Mother of God and Mother of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

One of the special features of our Novena is the beautiful participation of the Indian Community in our parish. Each day, the Indian mothers lovingly dress Mother Mary in a different sari as a visible expression of their faith and devotion.

The different colours and beautiful saris reflect the rich cultural heritage of our Indian community, while also expressing their deep love, reverence, and affection for Mary, the humble woman chosen by God to be the Mother and bearer of Christ.

What a beautiful witness of faith and culture! Through their devotion, may Mary continue to bring our parish closer to her Son, Jesus, and inspire all of us to say with her: “Let it be done to me according to your word.”
