On Sunday and Monday, the Holy Cross Seminary community had a seminar on celibacy as part of our ongoing formation for priestly life.

The seminar provided an opportunity to reflect more deeply on celibacy as a gift, a commitment, and a way of conforming oneโ€™s life more closely to Christ. Through reflections, discussions, and prayer, seminarians were encouraged to consider the human, spiritual, and pastoral dimensions of this important aspect of priestly formation.

We are grateful for the opportunity to engage with this topic and to continue growing in our understanding of the vocation to priestly service and self-giving love. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Some of our seminarians recently visited Te Unga Waka Marae on Sunday, to present their pepeha as part of their Pastoral Care assignment. It was a meaningful opportunity to engage more deeply with Mฤori culture, identity, and the importance of whakawhanaungatanga within ministry and pastoral life.

The rest of the Holy Cross Seminary community later joined in for the celebration of Mass, followed by a time of fellowship and kai together. ๐Ÿฝ๏ธโœ๏ธ

We are grateful for the warm hospitality and for the opportunity to continue growing in our understanding of faith, culture, and community here in Aotearoa. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

On Tuesday evening, the Holy Cross Seminary community had the privilege of welcoming Bishop Steve Lowe, who gave a thoughtful reflection on the recent letter of Pope Leo XIV address to the priests.

Bishop Steve spoke about the Holy Fatherโ€™s call for priests to remain rooted in prayer, faithful in their vocation, and close to the people they are entrusted to serve. His reflection offered the seminarians a valuable opportunity to consider more deeply the heart of priestly life and ministry.

The Holy Cross Seminary community rejoices in celebrating Founderโ€™s Day, a time of gratitude for the legacy upon which our seminary is built. โœ๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰

We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to Peter Jang and Rewi Peni, who were installed as acolytes. This important step in their journey of formation is a sign of their growing commitment to serve at the altar and in the life of the Church.

Please keep them in your prayers as they continue their path towards priesthood. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Today the Holy Cross Seminary community had the privilege of welcoming Dr. John Evangelista, who gave a talk on the importance of intellectual formation in the life of a seminarian.

He offered a helpful distinction between academic formation and intellectual formation. While academic formation focuses on study, assessments, and the pursuit of knowledge, intellectual formation goes deeper โ€” shaping the mind to think with Christ and in harmony with the mind of the Church. It is about integrating truth into oneโ€™s way of seeing, judging, and living.

This evening, the Holy Cross Seminary community had the privilege of receiving a formation presentation from members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

The Order is a lay and clerical association of the faithful whose mission is to support the Church in the Holy Land, especially through prayer, charitable works, and the promotion of Christian life in those sacred places. They are particularly committed to assisting the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and strengthening the presence of Christians in the Holy Land.

Thank you to Fr. Chris Denham KCHS and Dame Carleen Blucher DCHS. We are grateful for their witness and for sharing more about their important work and mission with our community.

The Holy Cross Seminary community recently enjoyed a wonderful BBQ at the Pompallier Centre, shared together with clergy from across the Auckland Diocese.

It was a great opportunity for fellowship, laughter, and strengthening the bonds between seminarians and priests in a relaxed and joyful setting.

A special thank you to the Knights of the Southern Cross for generously catering the evening โ€” your support and hospitality are deeply appreciated! ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿค

May the Lord continue to bless our community with wisdom, unity, and peace as we look forward with hope to the year ahead. โœจ๐ŸŒ End-of-Year Cultural Celebration 2025 ๐ŸŒ
Tonight, the Holy Cross Seminary community gathered in joy and gratitude to celebrate the end of the year with a vibrant Cultural Night, sharing food, music, and traditions from Vietnam, Korea, India, the Philippines, New Zealand, Argentina, Tonga, and Samoa. ๐Ÿฒโœจ

It was also a moment of heartfelt farewell to Fr. Ron and to our brothers Tanng Joseph, Bob (as they begin their pastoral year), and Jack. We give thanks for their presence, service, and witness among us, and we accompany them with our prayers and best wishes. ๐Ÿ™

As we come to the close of another year, we give thanks to God for His abundant grace throughout our journey of study, formation, and community life. Each class, prayer, and shared moment has strengthened us in faith and prepared us to serve more faithfully in His vineyard. ๐ŸŒฟ
May the Lord continue to bless our community with wisdom, unity, and peace as we look forward with hope to the year ahead. โœจ
