The Great Drigung Kagyu Lotus Stupa

The Great Drigung Kagyu Lotus Stupa Lumbini, Nepal. Founded by H.E Drubwang Sonam Jorphel Rinpoche The Great Lotus Stupa is one of them.

INTROUCTION
Here in Lumbini, the Birthplace of Buddha Shakyamuni, a Stupa was erected to contribute to the spiritual development of all living beings and to set a milestone of peace and harmony that counteracts negative influences in the world. Over a period of four years starting in May 2000, a group of experts from different backgrounds worked together to realize this remarkable project. Accord

ing to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, there are eight different types of Stupas. Each one is connected with a particular even in the life of the Omniscient-one. It represents Buddha’s birth and hence was the fitting type to be erected here at Lumbini. The monument is located in the Western Monastic Zone of the Lumbini Development Area. In this zone different groups of Mahayana Buddhism establish temples in accordance with their respective tradition. On February 27th,2004 the Stupa was inaugurated by the head of the Drigung Kagyud tradition, His Holiness Drigung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche and many other eminent teachers. The Great Drigung Kagyud Lotus Stupa is not just a sacred monument but a peace of silence for meditation and worship. Monks live here and perform Buddhist rituals, prayers and studying about Buddhism philosophes. They all have received an education in the Drigung Kagyud tradition of Tibetan Buddhism in order to keep its precious teaching alive for the benefit of all sentient beings.

༈ ཕྱི་ལོ་ ༢༠༢༦ ཟླ་ ༠༩ ཚེས་ ༥ དང་ ༦ ཉིན། འདི་ག་དཔལ་འབྲི་གུང་བཀའ་བརྒྱུད་པད་སྤུངས་མཆོད་རྟེན་དགོན་གྱི་འབྲིང་རིམ་སློབ་གཉེར་བ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་དབྱར་གནས་སྐབས་རྩོད་གླེང་དང་གཏམ་འཆད་ཀྱི་རྒྱུགས་ཕུལ་ཡོད།

On September 9th and 10th, 2026, the middle-level students of Drigung Kagyu Lotus Stupa participated in the Summer Retreat Speech and debate competition.
The competition provided a valuable opportunity for the students to enhance their public speaking skills, confidence, knowledge, and ability to express their thoughts clearly. It was inspiring to witness their enthusiasm, preparation, and sincere efforts throughout the event.

On January 26, 2026, on the most auspicious occasion of the 88th Birth Anniversary of His Eminence Drubwang Sonam Jorfel Rinpoche, a Guru Yoga Puja (Lama Chöpa) Tsok Offering was solemnly performed at the Great Drigung Kagyu Lotus Stupa in Lumbini.

The sacred ceremony was conducted under the gracious leadership of Vajra Master Khenpo Konchok Zangpo, along with Khenpos, Drubpon, Lopons, and the monastic assembly, as an offering of prayers for the long life of His Eminence and the continuous flourishing of the Buddha Dharma.
