🌿 EXCITING NEW TEACHING SERIES — BEGINNING OCTOBER 13 🌿
The Journey of Buddhism: One Teaching, Many Traditions
ZOOM Tuesdays 6:15 pm Alberta Time
How did the teachings of the Buddha, first shared more than 2,500 years ago in northern India, become the many rich and diverse Buddhist traditions we know today?
Beginning Tuesday, October 13, join Venerable Metteyya for a new teaching series that will take us through the fall and into the New Year as we follow the extraordinary journey of the Buddha’s teachings across centuries, cultures and continents.
We’ll begin in the years following the Buddha’s passing, exploring the early Buddhist communities and schools of thought that emerged as practitioners sought to understand, preserve and live his teachings.
From there, we’ll travel with the Dhamma as it moves across India and beyond — to Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia, along the ancient Silk Roads into China, and onward into Tibet, Korea, Japan and eventually the modern world.
Along the way, we’ll encounter some of Buddhism’s great thinkers, teachers and traditions — from the early schools and Theravāda to Mahāyāna, Madhyamaka, Yogācāra, Pure Land, Chan and Zen, and Vajrayāna — and explore how Buddhism entered into dialogue with the cultures, philosophies and spiritual traditions it encountered.
How did these traditions become so different?
What do they still share?
And through more than two millennia of change, what remains at the heart of the Buddha’s teaching?
Join us for this fascinating journey through the living history of Buddhism — told through teachings, stories, people and places.
🪷 Beginning Tuesday, October 13 and continuing into the New Year.
