The fifteenth day of the eighth month of the Tibetan Fire Horse Year coincides with the birthday of Venerable Kyabje Sang Sang Rinpoche. However, due to the sudden and devastating flash floods that have recently occurred in Nepal, originating from the Nepal–Tibet border region, tens of thousands of people have lost their lives, while many thousands of survivors are enduring immeasurable suffering.
In accordance with Rinpoche’s compassionate wishes, the birthday celebration has therefore been set aside. With shared compassion and grief, and for the benefit of both the living and the deceased, the monastic sangha performed the following practices:
• In the morning session: Within the mandala of the Tsa Sum Chidü, the combined Three Roots, the Narak Kangshak purification, replenishment and confession will be performed, together with an extensive long-life accomplishment practice (Tsedrub) and tsok offering.
• In the afternoon session: A tsok offering was performed according to the Namchö Dechen Zhingdrub, the Sky Dharma practice of the Pure Land of Great Bliss.
• The Jangchog rite for guiding beings of the lower realms was performed, together with a Sur offering.
• The Nangsal Tongchö thousandfold butter-lamp offering and lamp-light aspiration prayers performed.
• In addition, the Five Great Aspiration Prayers and other practices was performed completely through the three stages of preparation, main practice, and conclusion.
Through the merit of these practices, may all the deceased be liberated from deluded appearances and the sufferings of the bardo, gradually traverse the grounds and paths, and be reborn in the pure realm of Great Bliss.
May all those who remain be freed from the various forms of suffering, enjoy good health and long life, abide in contentment and moderation, live in accordance with the Dharma, and have their virtuous aspirations fulfilled.
May the Buddha’s teachings flourish and spread far and wide. May the holders of the teachings remain long in this world. May the Sangha communities flourish and increase. May all beings enjoy happiness, and may the entire world partake in the glory of peace and auspiciousness.
May all these aspirations be spontaneously accomplished.
With prayers and wishes
Lhundrup Choling Monastery Sangha
