We are pleased to offer the opportunity to make offerings and share in the virtuous activities of this year’s annual ‘Rainy Season Summer Retreat’ (Yarney) at Kopan Nunnery Khachoe Ghakyil Ling, Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, Nepal, to be held from July 29th to September 12th, 2026. You are cordially invited to participate. Gompa member-supporters can send offerings, together with dedications, at any time up until September 12th, 2026.

The Event:

The summer retreat is a sacred tradition established by the Buddha Shakyamuni. During this time, the nuns remain within the nunnery and concentrate exclusively on study and practice. Special vows are taken and strict discipline is followed by all of the nuns. This is considered an especially meritorious time when it is traditional for lay followers to participate by making offerings for the nuns’ food and tea during the period of retreat.

🪷 Chökhor Düchen 2026 🪷

Chökhor Düchen commemorates the Buddha’s First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma at Sarnath, where he gave his first teaching on the Four Noble Truths, opening the path to liberation for all beings. It is one of the four great holy days in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

On this auspicious occasion, the Sangha of Kopan Nunnery joyfully engages in prayers, recitations, and Dharma practice. May the light of the Buddha’s teachings continue to illuminate the world, bringing peace, wisdom, compassion, and lasting benefit to all sentient beings. 📿🙏

🪷 On 17 July, the teachers and nuns of Kopan Nunnery recited the Abhisamayālaṅkāra and the Madhyamakāvatāra in commemoration of the anniversary of our late Guru, Sera Mey Geshe Thupten Rinchen-la. May the merits of these prayers bring peace, wisdom, and benefit to all sentient beings. 📿🙏
