Lakolachhen Ritual Observance
According to Govinda Suwal ( 67), today in Lakolachhen, a buffalo is being sacrificed during the evening as part of a traditional ritual. The body parts are then hung near the column on the first floor, symbolizing that the sacrificial ceremony has been completed.

At midnight, six pieces of the buffalo's flesh are distributed among all the residents of Lakolachhen, continuing an age-old custom. It is believed that if no one comes forward to pull the sacred chariot, the people of Lakolachhen themselves will take up the responsibility.

In addition, the deity Chetrapal, regarded as the protector of the area, is honored in front of the temple. Chetrapal is worshipped upon a sacred cloth, which is kept only for eight nights and nine days during this period.

In the historic streets of Bungamati, the Hyagrib Bhairab Temple embodies Nepal's rich cultural and religious heritage. Dating back to 776 A.D., its origins remain mysterious, but its five-story rectangular structure with a distinctive hip roof stands as a testament to its enduring significance.

The temple is dedicated to Hyagrib Bhairab, or Bhailahaju, the guardian deity of Bungamati and protector of Rato Machchhindranath. According to legend, Bhailahaju played a pivotal role in bringing the sacred Bungadya to the valley, solidifying his importance in Newa society.

Festivals and rituals breathe life into the temple, with major celebrations including the annual procession of Aju and Ajima and the vibrant bhajan gatherings during Kartik's full moon. Despite the damage from the 2015 earthquake, including the collapse of its upper roof, the temple continues to symbolize resilience and faith, undergoing restoration to preserve its legacy. Its enduring spirit inspires awe, making it a cherished sanctuary for generations.

Madhav Narayan Festival: A Month-Long Devotion in Bhaktapur

The Madhav Narayan Festival, celebrated for a month during the Nepali month of Magh, is a unique and sacred tradition observed primarily in Bhaktapur and Sankhu. Dedicated to Lord Madhav Narayan, a form of Lord Vishnu, it begins on Paush Shukla Poornima and ends on Magh Shukla Poornima. Devotees practice rigorous fasting, perform holy rituals at Hanuman Ghat, and participate in unique traditions like *Silamantulegu* (rolling down to the river) and *Madulyau* (prostrating at each step). The festival also involves the journey of Madhav Narayan's idol to significant religious sites such as Pashupatinath, Panauti, and Changunarayan.

The Ekadashrudreshwor Temple is dedicated to the 11 forms of Shiva, symbolized by 11 shiva lingas placed on a single jalhari. These forms, known as Ekadashrudra, are mentioned in the Mahabharata and various Puranas, though their specific names and order differ across texts.

While no records confirm its origin, a document mentions Badri Narasimha, possibly linked to the temple's construction, but this remains uncertain. Despite its historical importance, the temple is in a deteriorated state due to the 2015 earthquake. Daily worship is performed by the Bhaṭṭa priests, but most annual rituals, including Shivaratri, have ceased. Public access to the site is now restricted.

Folklore and legends of The Jayavāgīśvarī Temple

1. Emergence from Mānasarovar: It is believed that Jayavāgīśvarī traveled from Mānasarovar in Tibet to Devapattana after being invoked by locals afflicted with speech impediments, following instructions from Paśupatinātha. Water from Mānasarovar was also brought to fulfill her wish, leading to the construction of the nearby Lũ Hiti spout.

2. Defense against the Gorkha Army: Legend says Jayavāgīśvarī emerged from her temple to assist the Devapattana army in defending against a Gorkha invasion of Kirtipur.

3. Goiter Goddess: Locals believe looking into Jayavāgīśvarī's eyes and seeing her smile can bring misfortune, including death or goiter, earning her the title "Galaḥdyaḥ" (Goiter Deity).

4. Brahma Statue and Childbirth: A rare Brahma idol, which we cannot see in that area at present, was once believed to ease labor pains for women who applied oil to it during childbirth.

5. Rain Rituals: During droughts, a final puja at the Hom K***a in front of the temple, followed by offerings at Sundarijal, is believed to invoke rainfall.

6. Bhramayeni Dance: The Nava Durga troupe visits annually in Mangsir to perform dances. A special ritual honors Bhramayeni, regarded as the "mitini" (spiritual companion) of Jayavāgīśvarī.

7. Shiva and Shakti Harmony: The temple reflects the unity of Shiva and Shakti, with Shakti enshrined in the main sanctum and Shiva in a gumbaz-style temple on the eastern side.
