CEP is launched a European pilot initiative to test the newly published European Mental Health Training Curriculum for Probation Staff in real operational settings.

This pilot is a unique opportunity for one selected CEP member jurisdiction to help shape the future of probation training in Europe.

The pilot is directly linked to the European Mental Health Training Curriculum: A comprehensive framework designed to strengthen probation practice, mental health literacy, and staff resilience across Europe. The curriculum provides the essential foundation for this implementation phase.

Are you passionate about tackling prison overcrowding and probation netwidening? CEP and EuroPris are seeking 8 experts (4 from CEP and 4 from EuroPris members) to join a new Joint Expert Group launching in 2026.

The group will work to strengthen understanding, share good practices, and develop practical, system-level responses to these growing challenges across Europe.

CEP at CDPPS 2026 ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

CEP participated in the 31st Council of Europe Conference of Directors of Prison and Probation Services (CDPPS) in Valletta, Malta, dedicated to โ€œPersons with Specific Needs and Vulnerabilities.โ€

CEP was proud to see Vice-President Danijela Mrhar Preliฤ‡ and former Vice-President Iuliana Carbunaru moderating workshops on women in correctional settings and prison-probation cooperation.

Thank you to our Maltese colleagues for their warm hospitality and excellent organisation. CEP looks forward to continuing these important exchanges at CDPPS 2027 in Ireland.

The European Commission has launched a new initiative, Protecting Children Against Crime, aimed at strengthening the prevention of and response to crimes affecting children across the EU. The initiative seeks to improve child protection, support victims, and ensure that justice, social, education, and child protection services work together more effectively.

As part of the process, the Commission has opened a ๐‚๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐„๐ฏ๐ข๐๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž,inviting stakeholders, practitioners, organisations, and citizens to share their views and help shape future EU action.

The documentary follows Carl Frampton as he explores the challenges of supporting people to move away from offending and break the cycle of reoffending, meeting both probation professionals and those working to rebuild their lives.

On 27 and 28 May 2026, Bucharest hosted the CEP Workshop on Caseload and Workload: Supporting Sustainable Probation Through the Human Dimension. With 40 participants representing 18 European jurisdictions, as well as delegates from South Korea, the workshop offered opportunities to exchange knowledge and develop strategies to manage the increasing caseload and workload in probation. Designed as an interactive space, it provided participants - practitioners, managers, researchers and experts โ€“ with reflections on current pressures within probation services and it explored practical, evidenceโ€‘informed solutions from across Europe.
