When we had to say goodbye to our dachshund Nomi, I kept a small lock of her fur. I didn’t know yet what it would become, only that it deserved a place beyond a box.
Over the past weeks, I started shaping it into something new. A small diorama, built around one of my favorite photos. A tiny world of memories, slowly taking form in wool and thread.
As I work on it, I find myself returning to those moments we had together for over fifteen years. Not in a big or dramatic way, but just small flashes. The way we used to walk in the park. How the kids would fight over who got to feed her snacks. The feeling of her simply being there, even when I didn’t see her lying on her favourite pillow.
It reminds me why I love this way of making. Creating something that’s not just pretty, but that holds meaning. Something you can return to. To cherish year after year.
And somewhere along the way, an idea started to form. Maybe, when my atelier is ready, it could become a place where others can make something like this too. Not a fixed design, but a small altar or diorama of their own. Something they can return to, again and again.
