‘Is

Last Monday we had a very interesting forum! Thank you all for joining us!

With speakers Nigel Crook and Vincent Muller, we were fascinated to listen to what they have to say about moral machines.

In his work, Nigel (speaker forum) is seeking to address some of the ethical challenges of AI by equipping algorithms/machines with a degree of moral competence, so that they can perceive and adapt to the moral implications of their actions on the people affected by their decisions. In his recent paper: ‘The anatomy of moral agency: A theological and neuroscience inspired model of virtue ethics’ Nigel presents an approach to learning AI systems ethical behaviour, which is informed by Christian theology.

Vincent's (speaker forum) most recent publication is all about ‘Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics’ (https://research.tue.nl/en/publications/ethics-of-artificial-intelligence-and-robotics ). In this paper he addresses relevant topics like for example ethical issues that arise with AI systems as tools made and used by humans. Additionally, the possibility of AI superintelligence is discussed. Furthermore he remarks that AI challenges the human view of humanity as the intelligent and dominant species on Earth.

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Entry for encyclopedia/dictionary › Academic › peer-review
