🇬🇧 An Encounter at the Mountain

The Exodus was never only about getting Israel out of Egypt. God brought them to himself.

At Mount Sinai, a redeemed people encountered the presence of God and discovered their identity and calling: his treasured possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. Only after redemption did God give them Torah, his instruction for how a free people should live under his kingship.

In this message, Sebastiaan van Wessem explores the powerful connection between Sinai and Pentecost, between Torah and the Spirit, and between grace and obedience.

Grace got Israel out of Egypt. Torah taught them how not to bring Egypt with them. And under the New Covenant, God gives us his Spirit and writes his instruction on our hearts.

Grace does not free us from obedience. Grace frees us for obedience.

🇳🇱 Een ontmoeting bij de berg

De uittocht draaide nooit alleen om het bevrijden van Israël uit Egypte. God bracht hen tot zichzelf.

Bij de berg Sinaï ontmoette een reeds verlost volk de aanwezigheid van God en ontdekte het zijn identiteit en roeping: Gods kostbaar bezit, een koninkrijk van priesters en een heilig volk. Pas ná de verlossing gaf God hun de Torah, zijn onderwijs voor hoe een vrij volk onder zijn koningschap mag leven.

In deze boodschap laat Sebastiaan van Wessem de krachtige verbinding zien tussen Sinaï en Pinksteren, tussen Torah en de Geest, en tussen genade en gehoorzaamheid.

Genade bracht Israël uit Egypte. Torah leerde hen hoe ze Egypte niet met zich mee moesten nemen. En onder het Nieuwe Verbond geeft God ons zijn Geest en schrijft hij zijn onderwijs in ons hart.

Genade bevrijdt ons niet van gehoorzaamheid. Genade bevrijdt ons tot gehoorzaamheid.

🇬🇧 From Slavery to a Spirit-Led Covenant Family

God did not deliver Israel from Egypt simply to set them free from slavery. He brought them out to form them into his covenant people.

In this first message in the All Things Restored II sermon series, Sebastiaan Boonstra explores Israel’s journey from bo***ge, through the wilderness, toward becoming a Spirit-led community with identity, purpose, and calling. Along the way, we see how God confronts false gods, breaks the power of slavery, reshapes our identity, and teaches us to live together as his people.

Salvation is more than leaving Egypt behind. It is learning to follow God, grow in faith, and become part of a committed covenant family that reflects his kingdom.

God bevrijdde Israël niet alleen uit Egypte om hen vrij te maken van slavernij. Hij bracht hen uit om hen te vormen tot zijn verbondsvolk.

Winning the War You Cannot See (Psalm 82)

In this final message of our Songs of Restoration series, Sebastiaan Van Wessem explores Psalm 82 and the spiritual battle behind the brokenness of our world.

From Babel to the cross and ultimately the return of Jesus, Scripture reveals a conflict involving rebellious spiritual powers, but also a King who has already won the decisive victory. Jesus has disarmed the powers, is reclaiming the nations through the gospel, and will one day bring every rebellious authority to an end.

How should we live in the middle of that battle? Not by becoming fascinated with darkness, but by standing in truth, righteousness, faith, the gospel, God’s Word and prayer.

The powers will fall. The nations will be reclaimed. The King will reign.

In de laatste boodschap van onze serie Songs of Restoration spreekt Sebastiaan Van Wessem vanuit Psalm 82 over de geestelijke strijd achter de gebrokenheid van onze wereld.

Van Babel tot het kruis en uiteindelijk de wederkomst van Jezus laat de Bijbel een strijd zien met opstandige geestelijke machten, maar vooral een Koning die de beslissende overwinning al heeft behaald. Jezus heeft de machten ontwapend, brengt door het evangelie de volken opnieuw onder zijn heerschappij en zal uiteindelijk iedere opstandige macht ten val brengen.

Hoe leven wij midden in die strijd? Niet door gefascineerd te raken door de duisternis, maar door stand te houden in waarheid, gerechtigheid, geloof, het evangelie, Gods Woord en gebed.

De machten zullen vallen. De volken zullen worden teruggewonnen. De Koning zal regeren.
