Today, the Church celebrates the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church. The readings remind us that Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus, but also the Mother of all believers.
In the Gospel (John 19:25–34), Jesus, even in the midst of His suffering on the Cross, looks at His mother and says: “Woman, behold your son.” Then He says to the beloved disciple: “Behold, your mother.” In that sacred moment, Jesus gives Mary to the Church as a mother.
Mary remained faithful at the foot of the Cross when many others ran away. She teaches us how to remain close to Jesus even in pain, confusion, and uncertainty. Her presence reminds us that true discipleship is not only about celebrating miracles but also about standing firm during trials.
The first reading from Genesis points to the promise of victory over evil through the woman and her offspring. Mary becomes the “new Eve,” whose obedience opens the way for salvation through Christ.
As Catholics, today invites us to:
trust God even when life is difficult, remain faithful in prayer, and allow Mary to lead us closer to Jesus.
Mary does not take our attention away from Christ; she always points us toward Him. A child who stays close to the mother never loses the way home.
Reflection
Are there moments when I only seek Jesus in blessings but struggle to remain with Him at the Cross? Can I learn from Mary’s quiet faith, patience, and total trust in God?
Prayer
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us and guide us closer to your Son. Teach us to stand firm in faith, to love the Church, and to trust God in every season of life. Amen🙏
Today is day 25th of May devotions, Ave, Maria 🙏
