Today, the Church celebrates the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church. The readings remind us that Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus, but also the Mother of all believers.

In the Gospel (John 19:25–34), Jesus, even in the midst of His suffering on the Cross, looks at His mother and says: “Woman, behold your son.” Then He says to the beloved disciple: “Behold, your mother.” In that sacred moment, Jesus gives Mary to the Church as a mother.
Mary remained faithful at the foot of the Cross when many others ran away. She teaches us how to remain close to Jesus even in pain, confusion, and uncertainty. Her presence reminds us that true discipleship is not only about celebrating miracles but also about standing firm during trials.

The first reading from Genesis points to the promise of victory over evil through the woman and her offspring. Mary becomes the “new Eve,” whose obedience opens the way for salvation through Christ.

As Catholics, today invites us to:
trust God even when life is difficult, remain faithful in prayer, and allow Mary to lead us closer to Jesus.

Mary does not take our attention away from Christ; she always points us toward Him. A child who stays close to the mother never loses the way home.

Reflection
Are there moments when I only seek Jesus in blessings but struggle to remain with Him at the Cross? Can I learn from Mary’s quiet faith, patience, and total trust in God?

Prayer
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us and guide us closer to your Son. Teach us to stand firm in faith, to love the Church, and to trust God in every season of life. Amen🙏

Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of thy faithful,

R: And enkindle in them the fire of thy love.

L: Send forth thy Spirit and they shall be recreated,

R: And thou shalt renew the face of the earth,

Let us pray:
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that in the same spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in his consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗧. 𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗔 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗦 & 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗦💟✝️

O Holy Patroness of those in need, St. Rita, whose pleadings before thy Divine Lord are almost irresistible, who for thy lavishness in granting favors hast been called the Advocate of the HOPELESS and even of the IMPOSSIBLE; St. Rita, so humble, so pure, so mortified, so patient and of such compassionate love for the Crucified Jesus that thou couldst obtain from Him whatsoever thou askest, on account of which all confidently have recourse to thee, expecting, if not always relief, at least comfort; be propitious to our petition, showing thy power with God on behalf of thy suppliant; be lavish to us, as thou hast been in so many wonderful cases, for the greater glory of God, for the spreading of thine own devotion, and for the consolation of those who trust in thee. We promise, if our petition is granted, to glorify thee by making known thy favor, to bless and sing thy praises forever. Relying then upon thy merits and power before the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we pray thee grant that..

(here mention your request)

By the singular merits of thy childhood, obtain for us our request.
By thy perfect union with the Divine Will, obtain for us our request.
By thy heroic sufferings during thy married life, obtain for us our request.
By the consolation thou didst experience at the conversion of thy husband, obtain for us our request.
By the sacrifice of thy children rather than see them grievously offend God, obtain for us our request.
By the severe penances and trice daily scourgings, obtain for us our request.
By the suffering caused by the wound thou didst receive from the thorn of thy Crucified Savior, obtain for us our request.
By the divine love which consumed thy heart, obtain for us our request.
By that remarkable devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, on which alone thou dost exist for four years, obtain for us our request.
By the happiness with which thou didst part from thy trials to join thy Divine Spouse, obtain for us our request.
By the perfect example you gavest to people of every state of life, obtain for us our request.

Pray for us, O holy St. Rita, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:
O God, Who in Thine infinite tenderness hast vouchsafed to regard the prayer of Thy servant, Blessed Rita, and dost grant to her supplication that which is impossible to human foresight, skill and efforts, in reward of her compassionate love and firm reliance on Thy promise, have pity on our adversity and succor us in our calamities, that the unbeliever may know Thou art the recompense of the humble, the defense of the helpless, and the strength of those who trust in Thee, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Tomorrow, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, a loving reminder that Heaven never abandons humanity. In 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, calling the world to prayer, repentance, sacrifice, and peace. Her message remains alive today, especially in a world wounded by division, fear, violence, and sin.

Our Lady of Fatima invites us to return to God with sincere hearts. She teaches us the power of the Holy Rosary, encouraging families to pray together and entrust every burden to the Lord. Her words, “Pray the Rosary every day,” continue to echo across generations because prayer changes hearts, strengthens faith, and brings souls closer to Jesus Christ.

The message of Fatima is not a message of fear but of hope. Through her Immaculate Heart, Mary points us toward the mercy of God. She reminds us that no darkness is greater than the light of Christ. Even amid suffering and uncertainty, God remains faithful to His people.

As we honor Our Lady of Fatima, may we also examine our own lives. Are we living according to God’s will? Are we choosing forgiveness over hatred, truth over lies, and love over selfishness? Mary calls us not only to devotion but also to conversion of heart.

May the Blessed Mother intercede for our families, our nation, and the whole world. May she protect the poor, comfort the sick, guide the youth, strengthen priests and religious, and lead sinners back to God. Let us hold tightly to her hand, trusting that she always leads us to Jesus.

“In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.”

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us. 🙏

Edel Quinn was born in Kanturk, Co. Cork, Ireland on 14 September 1907. As a girl her ambition was to enter a contemplative convent, but she was prevented from doing so by ill-health. At the age of 20 she joined the Legion of Mary in Dublin and was an enthusiastic member.

In 1932 she became seriously ill and spent a long period in hospital. She resumed her activities in the Legion but for the remainder of her life was impaired due to that illness.

In 1936 Edel was appointed Legion of Mary Envoy to East Africa – to countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Mauritius. She encountered obstacles in this pioneering work and overcame them despite her poor health and harsh conditions. She had great faith in God’s love and a limitless trust in the maternal care of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Edel was gifted with a clear practical mind. She had notable organising ability, an indomitable will and a depth of warmth and human empathy. Her infectious joyousness of spirit never failed her. These qualities quickly won everyone to her side.

Although often working alone and in a state of ill-health and exhaustion, Edel established the Legion of Mary on a firm footing in the countries she visited – even as far as Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. Hundreds of Legion branches and higher councils of the Legion were established – meaning that thousands of Africans were mobilised in the service of the Church.

After eight years of heroic labour, Edel died in Nairobi on 12 May 1944 where she is buried in the Missionaries’ Cemetery.

The Diocesan Process, the first step towards her beatification, was set in motion in 1957 by the Archbishop of Nairobi. She was declared Venerable on 15 December 1994 by Pope John Paul II.

Some sections of Mother of Christ Specialist Hospital, Enugu State Nigeria got burnt, but the altar on which contained the statue of our blessed mother Mary and other artificial flowers decors remained intact.

According to the eye witnesses, this was a great miracle...
Ave, Maria 🙏
