The Story of a Curious Child
Once upon a time, there was a curious child who loved asking questions. One day, he began wondering:

“Who is the strongest of all?”

So he went to Iron and asked,

“Are you the strongest?”

Iron smiled gently and replied,

“No, little one. Fire melts me.”

The child hurried to Fire.

“Then you must be the strongest!”

But Fire crackled and answered,

“No. Water puts me out.”

The child ran to Water.

“Are you the strongest then?”

Water flowed softly and said,

“No. The Sun makes me disappear.”

The child looked up to the sky and asked the Sun,

“Are you the strongest?”

The Sun shone brightly and replied,

“Not at all. The clouds can cover me.”

So the child chased after the Clouds.

“Surely you are the strongest!”

The Clouds rumbled and answered,

“No. The Wind blows us wherever it wishes.”

Excited, the child turned to the Wind.

“You must be the strongest!”

The Wind laughed loudly.

“No, child. The Mountain stops me.”

The child climbed to the Mountain and asked,

“Are you the strongest?”

The Mountain stood tall and proud, yet it answered,

“No. Man breaks me apart.”

The child quickly found a Man.

“Then man must be the strongest!”

But the man shook his head sadly.

“No, child. Death defeats us all.”

The child became quiet.

Slowly, he went to Death and whispered,

“You take everyone… kings, warriors, rich and poor. You must be the strongest.”

Death smiled proudly and said,

“For thousands of years, I believed I was. I conquered kings, warriors, politicians, dictators, and nations. No one escaped me.”

Then Death suddenly became silent.

“But one day… someone did.”

The child listened carefully.

“I took Him. He was beaten, mocked, and crucified. For three days, I celebrated what I thought was my greatest victory.”

Death trembled.

“But then… He stood up.”

“The earth shook. My victory turned to fear. He broke my power, took my keys, and made me bow before Him.”

The child whispered softly,

“Who is He?”

And Death, shaking with fear, answered:

“Jesus Christ… He is the strongest.”

Glory be to Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

My son hit me thirty times in front of his wife... So, while he was sitting in his office the next morning, I sold the house he thought was his.
I counted every blow.
One.
Two.
Three.
By the time my son's hand struck my face for the thirtieth time, my lip was split, my mouth tasted of blood and metal, and every trace of parental denial I had left had vanished completely.
He thought he was teaching an old man a lesson.
His wife, Sophia, sat on the sofa, watching with that poisonous half-smile people wear when they enjoy seeing another being humiliated.
My son believed that youth, rage, and a massive mansion in Highland Park were enough to make him powerful.
What he didn't know was this:
While he was busy acting like a king, I was already mentally evicting him.
My name is Arthur Vega. I am 68 years old. I spent four decades building roads, bridges, and commercial projects all over Texas. I negotiated with unions, survived recessions, buried friends, and saw too many people confuse money with integrity.
This is the story of how I sold my son's house while he was still sitting at his desk, believing his life was untouchable.
It was a cold Tuesday in February when I went to his birthday dinner.
I parked my old sedan two blocks away because the circular driveway was already full of rented luxury cars—all sleek and shiny, owned by people who love the appearance of success but have never experienced the true weight of work.
In my hands, I carried a small package wrapped in brown paper.
It was my son Daniel’s thirtieth birthday.
From the outside, the house looked magnificent.
And for good reason.
I bought it.
Five years earlier, after closing one of the best real estate deals of my career, I paid for that property in cash. I let Daniel and Sophia live there and told them it was their home.
What I never told them was the most important part:
the deed was never in their name.
The property belonged to a limited liability company called Mastiff Holdings.
And I was the sole owner.
To them, it was a gift.
To me, it was a test.
And they were failing it in the worst way possible.
The red flags had started long before that night.
Daniel stopped calling me "Dad" and started treating me like a nuisance. Sophia insisted I "call before coming over," even though legally the house belonged to me. They were embarrassed by my car, my old coat, my rough hands, my age, my silence. At dinners, they introduced me as if I were a relic of the past. The old builder who got lucky and didn't understand how the world worked now.
That always amused me.
Because I understood that world perfectly.
I helped build it for people like them.
That night, everything exploded over something insignificant that was never truly insignificant.
I gave Daniel a restored vintage watch, the same model his grandfather had always wanted. He barely opened the box. He threw it on the table like it was trash and said, in front of his guests, that he was tired of me showing up expecting gratitude in a house that no longer had anything to do with me.
So I told him, calmly, to be careful not to forget who had laid the foundation beneath his feet.
That was enough.
He stood up.
He pushed me first.
Then he started hitting me.
And I counted.
Not because I was weak.
Because I couldn't take it anymore. Every blow tore something away from me.
Love.
Hope.
Excuses.
Memory.
When he finally stopped, he was breathing hard, as if he had won something.
Sophia was still looking at me as if I were the problem.
I wiped the blood from my mouth, looked at my son for a few long seconds, and realized a truth that some parents learn too late:
Sometimes you don't raise a grateful son.
Sometimes, you simply maintain an ungrateful man.
I didn't scream.
I didn't threaten him.
I didn't call the police.
I picked up the gift box from the floor, turned around, and walked out.
The next morning, at 8:06 AM, I called my lawyer.
At 8:23 AM, I called the manager of Mastiff Holdings.
At 9:10 AM, the house was put up for sale through an expedited private process to a buyer who had been waiting months for an off-market property in that neighborhood.
At 11:49 AM, while my son was still in his office, convinced his luxury life was perfect, I was signing the papers.
Then my phone rang.
His name appeared on the screen.
And I already knew why he was calling.
Because someone had just rung the doorbell of that mansion.
And the person on the other side wasn't there to wish him a good day.
The second part is in the comments.

that Tiv residents are now being labelled as “settlers” in Wukari, despite what he described as their longstanding historical, political, and social ties to the area.

Citing historical precedents, Ahur emphasised the role of Tiv leaders in past governance and electoral processes, arguing that their indigene status in Taraba State is well established.

He also claimed that ancestral lands abandoned by displaced families have been occupied and redistributed by other groups.

“We believe the deployment of security personnel has not facilitated our return but has instead prevented us from accessing our homes,” Ahur said, calling on the Chief of Army Staff to investigate the conduct of troops in the affected areas.

The group appealed directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene by ensuring their safe return, deploying neutral security personnel, and providing humanitarian assistance.

They also called on the international community to take note of their situation, referencing the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and urged urgent action to address what they described as serious violations of their fundamental human rights.
