I write with a burdened heart concerning the annual Christian gathering in Demsa Local Government Area, organized under the auspices of the Lutheran leadership. This matter is no longer one of preference or opinion, it is one of moral responsibility, biblical injunction, and accountability before God and man.
For years, substantial donations amounting to millions of Naira have been given by politicians and well-meaning individuals to support this gathering. Yet the glaring absence of basic amenities exposes a grave failure in stewardship. Scripture is unequivocal: “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2). Faithfulness is not proclaimed from the pulpit; it is demonstrated in responsible action. Where then is that faithfulness?
Thousands assemble for this sacred convocation, yet there are no adequate toilet facilities. Mothers and children are left to bathe in the open, their dignity compromised. The Church or the body responsible for this program MUST create at least 200 toilets, 100 for men and 100 for women, I look forward to see this project in the next gathering.
The Church or body responsible for this program, must create a temporary clinic or hospital, nothing less than 15 clinic to serve as first aid space.
This is not merely an administrative oversight; it is a moral indictment. The Bible commands, “Let all things be done decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40). Decency and order are not optional virtues; they are divine requirements. You cannot allow people parents and siblings to bathe in an open place where their nakedness is exposed.
More grievous still, a few years ago a mother lost her life after being forced to cross a highway in search of privacy to bathe. She was struck by a truck and died instantly. This tragedy cannot be dismissed as unfortunate coincidence. Leadership carries the burden of duty of care. Alot of monies are donated to this program, therefore such moneys should be put to proper use.
There is no temporary clinic on site for emergencies. Should someone collapse during the program, must life hang in the balance while transportation is sought? Our Lord teaches in Luke 10, through the parable of the Good Samaritan, that true godliness is practical compassion. A church that preaches mercy yet fails to provide the most elementary provisions for health and safety contradicts its own gospel.
The Church must not mirror the negligence and corruption often attributed to secular governance. Christ declared, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). Light exposes darkness; it does not participate in it. I feel corruption is the major reason that there program lacks basic amenities. When leaders handle vast sums yet fail to provide toilets, water, safety measures, and basic medical support, questions of integrity inevitably arise. And where transparency is absent, suspicion flourishes.
LET IT BE STATED PLAINLY: preaching holiness while neglecting human dignity is hypocrisy.
James 2:16 rebukes those who say, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” yet provide nothing for physical needs. Faith without works is dead. Likewise, leadership without accountability is dangerous.
The Lutheran leadership must, without excuse or delay, address these failures. Install PROPER SANITATION FACILITIES. PROVIDE SECURE BATHING AREAS. ESTABLISH A TEMPORARY MEDICAL CLINIC. ENSURE ROAD SAFETY MEASURES. ACCOUNT TRANSPARENTLY FOR ALL DONATIONS RECEIVED. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL CHARITY; IT IS BIBLICAL OBLIGATION.
If the Church cannot demonstrate order, compassion, stewardship, and integrity within its own gathering, how shall it credibly call the world to righteousness?
THIS MUST STOP. AND IT MUST STOP NOW. FOR WISDOM IS PROFITABLE TO DIRECT, AND TRUE SHEPHERDS GUARD, NOT ENDANGER, THEIR FLOCK.
