The Reality which BAPTISMS communicate is that of being completely submerged under an influence. It is a declaration of total surrender and separation from a World into another.

The Lord Jesus was baptized in Jordan, for that was the right thing to do (Matt. 3:15)
"And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.”

It was by this means, The beloved Son of God was identified. It therefore isn't a mere ritual, it is a badger of identification.
