Beloved Church Family, Yesterday, on this special Trinity Sunday, we were richly blessed by the ministry of
Rt. Bishop. Amos J. Yakubu.
Text: John 3:1-15
Topic: Are You Born Again? The minister delivered a soul-searching message emphasizing that without being born again, there is no chance of entering the Kingdom of God. He explained the words of Jesus to Nicodemus: “What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.” Being born again is a spiritual rebirth.
Rev. Yakubu recounted how Nicodemus came to Jesus by night, acknowledging Him as a teacher from God. Jesus, knowing his heart, went straight to the point the need for the new birth. Even though Nicodemus struggled to understand at first, Jesus lovingly brought him into the light.
The minister made it clear that Baptism is not merely water. Every true baptism carries four important elements:
The Word
The Blood
The Spirit
The Water
Though we may not visibly see the mark of the cross declare on our foreheads during baptism, Christ sees it.
He highlighted three accepted modes of baptism
Pouring,
Sprinkling,
and Immersion
and stressed that once a person has been genuinely baptized, repeating it is unnecessary.
Baptism is the way we are admitted into the household of God. Jesus declared, “You must be born again of water and the Holy Spirit” to enter the Kingdom of God.
What does it mean to be Born Again?
It begins in the heart. After hearing the Word of God, one must repent, turn away from everything that displeases God, and sincerely accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Then the water and the Holy Spirit complete the work.
Supporting scriptures: Ephesians 2:1
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
A truly born-again person is known by their character loving, peaceful, truthful, and separated from the old life of sin.
Rev. Yakubu ended with this powerful and personal question to every heart:
“Are you born again?”
May the Lord help us to truly experience the new birth and live as genuine children of God, filled with the Holy Spirit.
