RE: OUR FAITH MUST RISE ABOVE PARTISAN POLITICS
The attention of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) has been drawn to a fraudulent document circulating on social media under the title _"Our Faith Must Rise Above Partisan Politics,"_ purportedly issued in the name of the _"Catholic Youth Association of Nigeria (CYAN)."_
The National Executive Council states unequivocally that the publication is false, fraudulent, unauthorised and a deliberate act of impersonation. It did not originate from CYON and does not represent the position or official communication of the Organisation. The publication is a calculated attempt to mislead Nigerians, Catholic faithful and the general public by falsely appropriating an identity that does not belong to its authors. We therefore consider this act irresponsible and deceptive.
For the avoidance of doubt, we clarify that the only recognised national body is the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON). The purported _"Catholic Youth Association of Nigeria (CYAN)"_ does not exist. Furthermore, the letterhead, logo, branding and contact details contained in the circulated document are fake and were deliberately designed to mislead the public.
The National Executive Council neither authored, approved nor authorised the publication. Consequently, every opinion, claim or assertion contained therein remains solely the responsibility of its unknown authors and must not be attributed to CYON.
The National Executive Council strongly condemns this act of impersonation, reserves the right to pursue all lawful remedies against those responsible, and urges all Catholic youths, members of the clergy, religious, the lay faithful, media organisations and the general public to disregard the publication and refrain from sharing or relying on it. Official communications of CYON are issued only through duly authorised National Officers and recognised communication channels.
The Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) remains unwavering in its fidelity to the Catholic Church and in full communion with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN). As the official umbrella body for Catholic youths in Nigeria, CYON remains committed to promoting the Gospel values of truth, peace, justice, unity and responsible citizenship under the pastoral guidance of the Church.
For the avoidance of doubt, the purported _"Open Letter"_ is hereby declared FAKE, FRAUDULENT, UNAUTHORISED, NULL, VOID AND OF NO EFFECT WHATSOEVER.
