THEME: A BRAND-NEW HEART II

3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

Matthew 13:19
19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

MESSAGE
The first type of soil that Jesus mentioned in the Parable of the Sower is The way side', as we see in today's Bible reading. This soil type refers to people who hear God's word but do not understand it or act upon it. This category of people do not study their Bibles, and even when they do, they don't ask their pastors or Bible Study teachers any questions. They never seek to understand God's word; they only hear His word and move on with their lives. Many of the people in this category are ceremonial churchgoers; they are often raised in Christian homes; so it is normal for them to attend church on Sundays. I was once this type of Christian. I thought that my father, being a church volunteer, and my name being Enoch, was proof that I was a child of God. I heard God's word several times, but I never studied it. I thank God that He gave me a new heart when I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ.

Beloved, are you the same way I was? Are you only reading this devotional because it is the norm in your church, family, or office to do so? Do you ever dig deeper to understand what is discussed? When you study your Bible, do you get bored after reading the second or third verse? If you answered "Yes" to these questions, you need to ask God for a new heart; a heart that yearns to know Him more. Ask God to give you a heart that finds His word interesting and loves to spend time in His presence. Most importantly, ensure that you take some time every day to study your Bible. You can start by reading a bit further on the topics discussed in this devotional each day, or using the Bible-in-one-year passages. You may not understand much when you begin doing these things, but as you remain consistent and ask God to help you, the Holy Spirit will start explaining the Scriptures to you, and soon, your heart will begin to soak in God's word and yield great fruit.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to seek to understand God's word more each day. When you make this your priority, you will begin to experience His peace and favour in ways you have never done before. I pray that your life will indeed be a bountiful harvest of God's goodness, in Jesus' name.

*MESSAGE:*

My God is called the Consuming Fire (Hebrews 12:29). However, He doesn't consume His children but rather, their enemies. God is so jealous about His children that when enemies g*ther against them, He ensures that they scatter in seven different directions (Deuteronomy 28:25). He promised to protect you such that not even a strand of your hair will be lost (Luke 21:18).

I wouldn't be alive today if my God is not a protective father, and I can tell you a lot of stories about the numerous times He has protected me from danger. When I moved into the camp that has now grown to become Redemption City with my family, there were snakes everywhere. Some of those snakes were so big that they would fill up the trunk of a Mercedes Benz car. I remember, on one occasion, I entered my children's room and found a snake there. I don't know exactly why I went into the room; I just know that God moved me to go there because He wanted to protect my children.

God also protects against spiritual forces. So many times, the devil has tried to attack me, especially in the early days of my ministry when we were just learning to deal with a lot of spiritual attacks from the kingdom of darkness. On one occasion during a Holy Ghost Service, there were two witches in the congreg*tion planning to attack me. One spoke to the other and said, "It is time; let us attack him now." Though there were thousands of people in the congreg*tion, God opened my ears, and I heard them. I stopped the service immediately and asked them to come out if they did not want to incur God's wrath. To everyone's surprise, they came out and confessed. If God had not revealed it to me, the story might have been different.

If you are a child of God, you must walk in the consciousness of His protection over you. Don't be afraid of the arrows of the enemy; they cannot come near you because God protects you. I am so conscious of God's protection over me that if I am walking and my leg hits a stone, I will turn to Him and say, "Lord, I hope I have not offended you in any way. If I have, please forgive me." This is because His word says that He will give His angels charge over me so I wouldn't dash my foot against a stone (Psalm 91:11).

God protects His children. Are you one of them?

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL

THEME: THE HOPE OF GLORY

1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

MESSAGE

To whom God would made known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Colossians 1:27

The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6 that one cannot please God without faith, for anyone to have hope of glory, the fellow must choose correctly whom he or she mound serve (Joshua 24::15). It takes faith to choose rightly, according to our memory verse for today.

Through faith in the Living God, we are justified as the redeemed of the Lord - Jesus being the Author and Finisher of,our faith. He came to save us through His death, by the washing away of our sins with His blood. This is why the Bible says:

But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen. And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. But now is Christ from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept.
1 Corinthians 15::13-14, 20

The Scripture above is the basis for our hope of glory. The Scripture further says, ' lf in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable" (1 Corinthians 15:19. This is why as Christians, we should not despair even in tribulation because of the assurance to of glory we have in Christ.

Our hope of glory is not an empty hope, according to Revelation 21:1-7, which assures us of a new heaven and a new earth where there shall be no more pain, sorrow, lack, sickness or death. Death shall be swallowed in victory (1 Corinthians 15:34).

Therefore, beloved, to have this hope in you, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour today. If you have accepted Christ, ensure you do not look back because Jesus said: ,No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back is fit for the Kingdom of God" (Luke 9:62).

I pray the Almighty God keeps us all in Him to the end in Jesus' name.

PRAYER POINT

Thank the Lord for the hope of glory and ask Him to help you remain steadfast in Him to the end.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL

DATE: THURSDAY JUNE 29TH 2023

THEME: ENTERING GOD'S PRESENCE 11

MEMORISE: Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God. Psalms 50:23

READ: Psalms 118:19 -21

19 Open to me the g*tes of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD:

20 This g*te of the LORD, into which the righteous shall enter.

21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.

MESSAGE

Yesterday we identified righteousness as a precondition to access God's presence. Once a person has clean hands and a pure heart, he or she would be able to access God's presence with thanksgiving and praises as stated in Psalm 100:4:

Enter into his g*tes with thanksgivings, and into his court with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

If you try to get into His presence with complaints or even requests, the g*te will not be opened to you. Only those who approach Him with thanksgiving are attended to. However, your thanksgiving will get you into His g*tes, but your praises will get you into His courts. Being in His courts is definitely a step higher than just getting into the g*tes. The keepers of the g*tes always check for how well you can praise God before they admit you in. If they see that you are not one who is willing to praise God, they will lock you out. David seemed to be talking to the keepers of the g*te when he said in Psalm 118:19, "Open to me the g*tes of righteousness: l will go into them, and l will praise the LORD."

It is as though God had instructed them thus: "If anyone comes here with complaints or requests without thanksgiving or praise, don't open this g*te for the fellow". I hat is why when Jesus was teaching us to pray in Luke 11:1-4, He said we are to start with, "Our Father who hath in heaven, hallowed be thy name". If you start your prayers that way, you are guaranteed access to the presence of God, where you can then present your requests.

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

John 4:23

Since the Father seeks true worshippers, it means that whenever you worship Him, you draw down His presence to wherever you are. Psalm 22:3 says that He inhabits the praises of His children. You won't have to fill your heart with thanksgiving and praise.

ACTION POINT

Spend at least one hour just praising God today.

THEME: ENTERING GOD'S PRESENCE 1

MEMORISE: Open ye the g*tes, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in. Isaiah 26:2

READ: Psalms 24:3 -6

3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

MESSAGE

The Bible tells us in Psalm 100:4 the entrance into God's presence has a g*te. When you see a g*te in a place, you know it is there so as to restrict access. Whatever is inside the place must be so valuable that they don't want any unauthorized person to,have access to,it. There are many treasures in e presence of God and not just anybody can enjoy them. One of such treasures is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11) and Liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17). Anyone who has entered the presence of God will tell you that it is a place that you don't want to ever come out from. In 2 Corinthians 5:8, Apostle Paul said, "We are confident, l say, and willing rather to be absent from body, and to,be present with the Lord."

The first criterion for accessing God's presence is holiness. God cannot stand sin. If you have any form of sin in your life, the g*te into His presence will be shut against you. Psalm 24:3-4 says:

Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who,shall stand in his holy place? He that had clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

Only those with clean hands and a pure heart can be allowed to,as end into the presence of the Lord. If your hands have been soiled with sin, forget about it. If your heart is not pure, if you harbour impure thoughts in that heart, the g*t into God's presence will be shut against you.

Open to me the g*te of righteousness: l will go into them, and l,will praise the LORD: This g*te of the LORD, into explicit the righteous shall enter.

Psalm 118:19

The g*tes into the presence of God are called the g*tes of righteousness; if you are not righteous, you cannot go through. The One whose presence you want to enter is a holy God; you must be holy before you can get in there. Joseph had to,shave and change his clothes before appearing before Pharaoh (Genesis 41:14; how much more when you want to enter the presence of the King of kings.

KEY POINT

To enter the presence of God, you must be holy.

THEME: SPIRITUAL SUPERIORITY

MEMORISE: For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God. Deuteronomy 4:24

15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

19 And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

20 And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

21 And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

23 And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

MESSAGE:

Spiritual Superiority is what can make you deal with your enemies so completely that you make a mockery of them. That is what happened in Colossians 2:15 which says, "And having spoiled principalities and power, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it."

2 Kings 6:8-20 tells us that King considered Elisha as a threat, so he sent an entire army to arrest him. This however, turned out to be an impossible mission because Elisha demonstrated spiritual superiority by arresting the entire army when they got to his place. As if that was not enough, he also led them as captives into their enemy's territory.

When God sees a man or woman who is committed to a life of holiness, He will use that fellow to make an open shame of the enemy and arrest arresters. If you get really close to God you won't pray for your enemies to be destroyed because the Bible says in Psalm 23:5:

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

If all enemies are dead, who will behold your glory? I am praying for you that God will take you to such a level that in the very presence of your enemies, He will be glorified in you, in Jesus' name.

Your ability to exhibit spiritual superiority over the devil happens when you become really close to God. How close do you want to be to God - the Consuming Fire? The elders say that when a leaf stays long with the soap, it will become soap. If you stay sufficiently close to the Consuming Fire, you too will become a consuming fire. If you really want to be able to put your enemies to shame, then you need to get close to,the Consuming Fire. The price to pay for this is complete holiness and constant fellowship with God. Fasting and prayers must be your lifestyle.

Without holiness, you cannot even have access to the Lord, talk less of being close to Him. Live holy and you will see the enemy begging you to release them after you have arrested them.

KEY POINT

When you get sufficiently close to the Consuming Fire, you will also become a consuming fire against your enemies.

THEME: OBEY YOUR PASTOR

MEMORISE: And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts 2:42

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

MESSAGE:

If you have chosen someone to be your pastor, then it is only right that you obey him or her. There are many people who call me Daddy and say l am the spiritual authority over them but l know that they are only deceiving themselves because they do not obey my instructions when they are contrary to what they want. If you don't obey the fellow with spiritual authority over you, then you are not really under his covering. Obey your pastor so that whatever God wants to give you through him or her can get to you.

Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
Hebrews 13:17

A pastor's work becomes easy when he or she has a cooperative congreg*tion who practice what they are taught from the pulpit. When you hear a message from the altar that is in line with the word of God, do it. If l show you in the Scriptures where God says you should do that thing, then you have to obey. If you disobey the word of God from the altar,,it is not really the pastor you are disobeying but the Lord who sent him.

There are many people who obey the word of God partially. They obey the Scriptures they find convenient and ignore the rest. The reason many of such people don't get expected results as Christians is that their obedience is not complete. Until your obedience is complete, you cannot resist the devil and see him flee. James 4:7 says you must submit to God first

Please my beloved, don't be stubborn like the lsraelites, constantly provoking Moses to the point where he eventually got angry and took an action that caused God to prevent him from entering into the Promised Land (Numbers 20:1-12). Don't discourage or provoke your pastor; rather, encourage him or her by submitting to his or her authority (Philemon 1:21).

ACTION POINT

Do something for your Pastor today to encourage him or her for all the labour he or she exerts over you.

READ: Psalms 84:1-12

1 How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!

2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.

4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

6 Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

7 They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.

8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.

9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

MESSAGE:

The greatest experiences a man can have in life are drawn from the moments he spends alone with God. Those times when destinies are shaped. If you look through the Scriptures and study people who achieved great feats for God, you will notice that all of them spent quality time alone with God. In Exodus 24:18, Moses had been in the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights spending time alone with God. No wonder he is the only man who ever saw God. After seeing the back of God inExodus 33:23, the Bible says the glory that shone on his face was so bright that people could not look at him. That is what happen when you spend time with God: His glory rubs off on you and it is evident to everyone around you.

Many times when the Bible talks about Elijah, he was on the mountain top. You go to the mountain top because you want to get away from where people are so that you can be alone with God. What was the result of Elijah's constant fellowship with God? He could call down fire from heaven anytime he wanted. He was also the first prophet to ever bring dead back to life. It is those times that you spend with God that He enlarges your capacity to do greater things than you used to. Joseph was a very busy man in Potiphar's house, overseeing his master's many great possessions. All that time that he was busy, he didn't grow beyond being a dreamer. When he was locked up in prison however, he had time to be alone with God and grew from being a dreamer to becoming an interpreter of dreams.

Your greatest potential will only be realised when you spend quality time with God. During Jesus' earthly ministry, He never joked with His quiet time (Luke 6:12, 21:37). No wonder He was able to fulfil His destiny as tough as it was. Be intentional about spending quality time with God - praising Him, praying, fasting, studying and meditating on His word. Don't joke with your quiet time with God; it is your most important meeting every day.

How many minutes/hours do you spend alone with God daily?
