But acknowledging your wrongdoing should lead you to repentance, not to the conclusion that you are worthless.

Condemnation weakens our boldness before God. It doesn’t just make you feel guilty; it makes you feel small, unworthy, and afraid to draw near.

But the gospel reminds us that we do not have to live under the weight of condemnation. In Christ, we can approach God with confidence and boldness.

When guilt is carried for a long time, it can gradually make your prayer life timid. You begin to approach God based on how you feel about yourself rather than on what Christ has accomplished.

Guilt keeps the focus on self, how unworthy, inadequate, or undeserving you feel.

But the gospel shifts our focus from ourselves to Christ. We can acknowledge our wrong, repent, and still approach God with confidence.

Guilt should not stop you from praying. You are not accepted because you feel worthy; you are accepted because of Christ.
