40 Things I’ve Learned
1) The power of music, a good night's sleep and sunshine is underrated.
2) Being popular, sensible or busy all the time is overrated.
3) No matter who you are or what you do, you are not responsible for the choices others make.
4) Sexiness has nothing do with your actual body image and everything to do with how you feel about it.
5) When listening to the voice in your head, ask yourself ‘Would I say that to a friend?’ It does wonders for self-kindness.
6) Acceptance does not mean giving up on wanting more. It just means letting go of the struggle for it.
7) A few minutes spent laughing with a best friend can make almost anything seem better.
8 ) Some people do not like to see you happy. Some people do not like to see you anything other than happy. Take note.
9) Life is mysterious. There may well be reasons for everything but some are more obvious than others. Do not go searching for one you may never find. It’ll find you if it needs to.
10) Never underestimate the value of a kind word. It can change someone’s day or life.
11) Disability and ability are each in the eyes of the beholder. Just as beauty is.
12) I cannot be all things to all people. And that’s OK.
13) Life is precious. Sometimes it takes pain to remind us of that. Sometimes it becomes obvious in the best, magical kind of ways.
14) Do not confuse sensitivity with weakness. The ability to feel, and to express those feelings is a great strength.
15) The more I trust intuition, the stronger it gets.
16) Rejection really is God’s protection. The miracle that brings two people together is also the miracle that has them drift apart (and the true miracle is usually only revealed later)
17) Having a couple of people in my life whom I can talk to about anything gives me the greatest comfort.
18) Knowing I am also that person for them gives me the greatest joy.
19) Whatever I charge for my services, there will always be those who disagree. My value is up to me.
20) I cannot resist salty food. Especially crisps (chips in the US!)
21) I am so much more than my circumstances and rising above them is a conscious choice at every moment.
22) All of us chose the perfect body for our purpose. Including me.
23) That doesn’t mean I’m totally OK with not being able to run and dance around sometimes. And that’s OK, too.
24) Some of the things that terrify people come easily to me and vice versa.
25) I am still scared of driving and won’t learn. If you knew my sense of direction and spatial awareness, you’d understand why!
26) Never assume people know how you feel. If you want them to know, tell them.
27) Perfectionism is futile because as humans we can never be perfect and as souls we already are.
28) Both praise and criticism are opinions. Do not base your worth on either.
29) Do not believe everything you think in the middle of the night and /or when you are pre-menstrual.
30) A sense of humour is essential.
31) Sometimes not getting what you want is very disappointing. Sometimes it turns out to be the best thing ever.
32) Gratitude and grief can co-exist.
33) You can be the most loving person in the world but if that love doesn’t include you then you’re not as loving as you might think.
34) Spiritual superiority is one of the most ironic, toxic things around.
35) I can fall in love with a voice.
36) Silence often says more than words ever could.
37) Speaking up is important, too. Recognize the difference.
38) My belief in Divine Timing has no bearing on my patience.
39) Everything can change in a year.
40) Words are among my favourite things about life. But there are no words to describe the beautiful, extraordinary Divine love I have felt and continue to feel in the most ordinary moments.
