*ABOVE ONLY DAILY DEVOTIONAL*

*BY: ARCHBISHOP M. E. BENSON IDAHOSA*

*THURSDAY AUGUST 10TH, 2023*

*YIELD YOURSELF TO GOD’S WORD AND HIS SPIRIT*

*Luke 1:34-35, 37-38 (NIV)*

*“How will this be, Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. *For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.*

Humanly speaking, the things Mary was being told by the angel of God seemed impossible. There was no way she could give birth to a child without the help of a man, and now she was being told that the child she would give birth to will be the savior of the world.

There are many things in God's word about you that you may not feel qualified to do or become in your lifetime. You may be feeling this way because you are considering your human capabilities, capacities, and potentials, and all God wants you to do is put your faith in Him. It is not through might or power, but through His Spirit (Zech.4:6-7). By His grace alone, you will do and become everything God has said about you (1Cor.15:10).

Everything God does, He does by His word (John 1:1-3, Heb.11:3) and God’s word and Spirit always work together, (Gen.1:2-3). God’s word is not ordinary. It is alive and it is full of power. It can pe*****te into any substance and every area of life and cause great effects, (Heb.4:12). All we have to do is to fill ourselves with God’s word and yield ourselves to it. Christ is the word of God. All scripture testifies of Him (John 5:39-40). Focus on Christ and fill yourself with the revelation of Christ until it takes over your consciousness, (Col.3:16).

*Prayer:*
O Lord, I submit to your word. I believe what you say about who I am and what I am capable of. Allow your word to rule my life.

*THE PRAYER LIFE OF ELIJAH*

*James 5:16-18 (LB)*

*Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results. Elijah was as completely human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for the next three and a half years! Then he prayed again, this time that it would rain, and down it poured, …*

Something positive that we see in the New Testament about the way Elijah prayed is his faith and consistency in prayers. Elijah’s prayers affected both the weather and the economy of an entire nation. The reason he was able to do this, was because he prayed in line with God’s word.

In 1Kings 18:41-45, Elijah told Ahab there would be an abundance of rain, then he went up the mountain to pray earnestly until he saw a sign that the rain was coming. He did not give up. He prayed and held on to God’s word till there was a divine confirmation and manifestation. At the beginning of that chapter, 1Kings 18:1b says, “…the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.” When Elijah had a contest with the prophets of Baal and called down fire on the animal sacrifice, he also said he did it at God’s word, (1Kings 18:36).

There is however something Elijah did that we are not supposed to emulate. When the disciples of Jesus wanted to call down fire to kill people just like Elijah did twice in 2Kings 1, Jesus, “…turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” Luke 9:55-56 (NKJV).

*Action Point:*
Use God’s word to pray about every desire on your heart right now. Forgive and bless those who may have hurt you.

*TUESDAY MARCH 21ST, 2023*

*MERCY AND LOVE*

*Ephesians 2:4-5 (NLT), Luke 6:36 (TPT), Proverbs 11:17*

*But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) *Show mercy and compassion for others, just as your heavenly Father overflows with mercy and compassion for all.” *The merciful man doeth good to his own soul:…*

Showing mercy unto others is a major dimension of walking in love. It is our understanding of the great love and mercy that God has shown us in Christ that fuels our ability to show love and mercy unto others.

It is while we were yet sinners that Christ died for us, (Rom.5:8). We did not deserve God’s love and mercy, but God chose to show us His love and mercy anyway. We do not show love and mercy to people because they deserve it, we show people love and mercy because that is our nature. It is a major part of our kingdom’s lifestyle. God is merciful and just like Him, we must be merciful unto others also.

In showing mercy unto others, we must forgive those who hurt us and not try to hurt them or retaliate for what they did to us. We must not hold grudges against one another or desire that evil or hurt comes to anyone. Instead, we must love and pray for them as Jesus said we should in Matthew 5:44. Ask God to touch, bless them and transform their lives. Overcome evil with good. The Bible says, “Put on, therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye,” (Col.3:12-13).

*Prayer:*
Dear Father, thank you for the great love and mercy you have shown me in Christ. Help me to extend this love and mercy to others.

*ABOVE ONLY DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE*

*BY: ARCHBISHOP M. E. BENSON IDAHOSA*

*SATURDAY FEBRUARY 18TH, 2023*

*TOPIC*: *EFFECTS AND BLESSINGS OF BEING SOLD OUT TO GOD*

*TEXT*: *John 17:4 (GNB), 2Timothy 4:7-8*

*I have shown your glory on earth; I have finished the work you gave me to do. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.*

Being sold out to God is about the best thing you can do with your life.
Our major reason for being sold out to God and passionate for Him is because of His great love for us and all He has done for us in Christ. However, there are so many great effects and blessings of being sold out to God that we should be aware of.

One of them is that your life brings so much joy, glory, honour and pleasure to the heart of God just like the life of Jesus. You will live right and you will do great exploits for God. God will use you mightily to spread the Gospel and advance His kingdom on the earth. When you are passionate about God, your life is also more influential. People catch your fire and passion for God instead of your fire and passion for God being dampened by the dullness or low zeal of others. The many distractions of our day will not affect your zeal for God. Like Apostle Paul, nothing will move you or discourage you from fulfilling God’s purpose for your life, (Acts 20:24).

You will finish strong and you will have great rewards when Jesus comes back again, (Rev.22:12). God the Father will say to you, “well done my good and faithful servant.” You will enjoy God’s provision to fulfill purpose and all things will work out together for your good.

*PRAYER FOCUS:*🙏
Heavenly Father, please continue to fill my heart with the truth of your great love for me and all you have done for me in Christ.

*ABOVE ONLY DEVOTIONAL*

*BY: ARCHBISHOP M. E. BENSON IDAHOSA*

*WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15*

*CONTROLLED BY THE LOVE OF GOD*

*2Corinthians 5:14-15 (NLT), Ephesians 5:2 (GNB) …Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died in our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, ...*Your life must be controlled by love, just as Christ loved us and gave his life for us as a sweet-smelling offering and sacrifice that pleases God.*

What is the major controlling force of your life? Is it the love of Christ? What inspires or motivates you in your thoughts, your words and your actions? Is it the love of Christ? In the King James Version, our first text above says the love of Christ constrains us. To be constrained is to be forced, coerced or compelled to do something. When your life is filled with the revelation of the love of Christ, it will constrain you.

God wants the love of Christ to be the lens by which you view life and the script by which you live your life. God wants the love of Christ to be the driving force of your life and the filter by which you purify every aspect of your life. Without the love of God, you cannot do anything that will please God. Whatever you do that is not born out of the love of God or done as a response to the love of God, is nothing before God, (1Cor.13:1-3).

It is the love of God that will make you yield your body to Him as a living sacrifice, (Rom.12:1). It will make you realize that you are dead and it is Christ that is living through you now, (Gal.2:20). It will make you yield yourself more to God’s Spirit. It will make you sold-out to God. Like Apostle Paul, you will labour more than others, (1Cor.15:10). There will be no sacrifice too big to make to honour God.

*Faith Declaration:*

The love of Christ is the driving force of my life. It controls and influences me in everything I do.

*ABOVE ONLY DAILY DEVOTIONAL* *BY: ARCHBISHOP M. E. BENSON IDAHOSA* *WEDNESDAY MARCH 30TH, 2022* *MAKE GOD YOUR ARM*...
30/03/2022

*ABOVE ONLY DAILY DEVOTIONAL*

*BY: ARCHBISHOP M. E. BENSON IDAHOSA*

*WEDNESDAY MARCH 30TH, 2022*

*MAKE GOD YOUR ARM*

*Jeremiah 17:5, 7-8, Romans 9:16*

*Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.*.. *it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.*

In the Bible, the term 'arm' does not merely refer to the physical arm of a human body. It is a symbol of strength or the device/machinery by which things get done. God wants you to make Him your arm. To make God your arm is to make God your source of strength and the One through whom things get done in your life. It is to put your hope and trust in Him. When you make God your arm, you are putting your absolute trust in Him to lift you, uphold you, work in your life and to take care of your things, just like you use your arms in the natural to lift things up, to hold things, to work and to take care of things. Making God your arm does not mean you will not work. You will work quite alright, but you will not work in your own strength or wisdom but by God’s strength and wisdom. It will literally be as if God Himself comes to place his arms on your arms to get things done.

In 2Kings 13:15-17, Elisha instructed King Joash to place an arrow into his bow and to point it outside the window. Elisha then stood behind King Joash and placed his hand on King Joash's hand. At Elisha's command, they both released the arrow. Elisha then declared king Joash’s victory. This will be your testimony also. Because your trust is in God, the strength of God is upon everything you are engaged in and God’s strength will determine your results. As you trust God and remain diligent in what He has called you to do, your total victory is assured. God is always looking out for people who trust in Him so that He can show Himself strong in their lives, (2Chron.16:9). As you trust in God, He will show Himself strong in your life today.

*Prayer:*
My absolute trust is in you O Lord! Let your wisdom and strength rest on me and manifest in my life. Show yourself strong in my life.

ABOVE ONLY DAILY DEVOTIONAL

BY: ARCHBISHOP M. E. BENSON IDAHOSA

THURS, MARCH 3RD, 2022

FELLOWSHIP WITH OTHER BELIEVERS

Philemon 1:1-3 (GNB), 1Corinthians 16:9, Hebrews 10:25 (GNB)

"From Paul, a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus, and from our brother Timothy—To our friend and fellow worker Philemon, and the church that meets in your house, … May God our Father … give you grace and peace. "The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house. "Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer"

A major feature of Paul’s letters was his greeting to the churches. He greeted both the church that met publicly and the churches that met in homes. In the early Church, their gathering and fellowship was not limited to just their public gatherings. They also met and fellowshipped together in their homes, (Acts 5:42, Acts 20:20). “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved,” (Acts 2:46-47). There is so much life and power that is released when we gather and fellowship together as believers. When Peter was imprisoned and about to be killed, the church met in houses to pray for him and God’s angel was released to set Peter free, (Acts 12:1-17).
As believers, we are a family and we need to commune and fellowship with one another, (1John 1:3). As we fellowship with one another, the life of God flows among us. God is a God of unity and fellowship but the devil loves disunity and isolation. God blesses and rewards unity (Psa.133) while the devil inspires and promotes disunity to cut people out of God’s life, blessings and grace. The only type of unity that God hates is unity for evil purposes, (Gen.11:1-9). We must not allow social distancing or anything else disrupt our spiritual fellowship with one another. Iron sharpens iron, (Prov.27:17). Fellowshipping with believers in our homes does not replace our public meetings as a church. Rather, it complements and enhance it. Have fellowship with your own family members and also have fellowship with other believers in your home.

PRAYERS:
Heavenly Father, I ask that you strengthen our fellowship together as believers. Release your life, power and blessings as we fellowship together.
