Happy Good Friday

Good Friday marks the darkest day in human history, yet it is called good because through Christ’s ultimate sacrifice, salvation was purchased. His selfless act reminds us of the immeasurable depth of God’s love and the transforming power of the Cross.

May the humility, forgiveness, and compassion of Christ inspire us to walk faithfully, serve with kindness, and live with hope.

On this sacred day, may your heart be filled with peace, your spirit strengthened by grace, and your life renewed with divine purpose in Jesus’ name.

*I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVES*

*Memory verse:* "I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth."
— Job 19:25, NIV

*Text: Job 19:23-27*

[23] “Oh, that my words were recorded, that they were written on a scroll,

[24] that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead, or engraved in rock forever!

[25] I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.

[26] And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God;

[27] I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

______

In a quiet village in New GRA, Ibadan, Sarah lost her faith after enduring deep sorrow. One day, she met Mama Kunle, a wise elder who shared Job’s story of steadfast faith through suffering.

Inspired by his unwavering hope in a living Redeemer, Sarah’s spirit rekindled. She found strength again, believing her own Redeemer lives.

One remarkable figure in the Bible who faced immense trials in his faith and trust in God was Job. His unwavering trust in God is beautifully captured in today’s text.

He viewed his trials as temporary, always keeping the bigger picture in mind. Even as his body decayed, it did not diminish his longing to "see God."

This desire to encounter God burned so strongly within him that the physical pain could not extinguish his passion. In the end, God delivered him, and Job’s hope was not in vain.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the weight of your challenges—whether emotional, mental, or physical? Do visible infirmities or hidden struggles weigh you down?

Take heart, for Jesus knows and understands every weakness and burden we carry. Bring all your troubles to Him in prayer.

He listens, cares deeply, and will provide strength, comfort, and healing in His perfect timing.

*Insight:* Oh, what needless pain we bear; all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

*Prayer:* Heavenly Father, help me live confidently in the assurance that my life is secure because You live.

*LOVE GOD AND LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR*

*Memory verse:*"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength" Mark 12:30, NIV

*Text: Mark 12:28-34*

[28] One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

[29] “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

[30] Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

[31] The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

[32] “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.

[33] To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

[34] When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

________

John Vianney, 18th Century Pastor, is quoted as saying, "Love for our Jone neighbour consists of three things: to desire the greater good of everyone; to do what good we can when we can; to bear excuse and hide others' faults.

The kind of love that Jesus is talking about here is the sacrificial love of the Cross. Not the superficial love of this world."

Today's Bible text focuses on Jesus' reply to the scribe who asked which commandment was greater.

Jesus summarised the law into two: love for God and for one's neighbour. He emphasises love as the greatest command, first towards God and then towards others.

This reflects God's nature as love-God is love. When we show love to our neighbour, we are practically expressing our love for God.

If you profess love to God but neglect your neighbour, your faith is questionable. As God's Children, we are expected to love him with all he has given unto us, especially our hearts.

He wants us to have and display Agape love, which is sacrificial, unselfish and wholehearted for him, and towards our fellow brethren in practical ways - through kindness, forgiveness and compassion.

When you claim to have the love (agape) of God, it must result in love (Philio) for your neighbours; otherwise, your love is fake.

*Insight:* Genuine love expresses itself in practical response to human needs.

*Prayer:* God, fill my heart with genuine love for you and humanity.

*RBT Passage: Deuteronomy 26-27*
