Text: Psalm 62:11-12
Speaker: Pastor Victor Onuh
Topic: Turn to God

This morning we would be looking at the statement of David from our text.
"Once hath God spoken; these two things have I heard".
What are the two things that David heard?

1. That power belongs to God
2. Also that mercy belongs to the Lord and He will render or repay to every man according to his work.

These two verses contain one of the most powerful and instructive truths in the Bible.

Beloved, all else may fail, but the power of God will not fail. This should lead us to turn to God and put our trust in God alone.

1. Power to turn-around difficult situation belongs to God. Therefore, we need to turn to God.
Read Genesis 18:13-14

2. Power to provide belongs to God. Therefore in times of need we need to turn to God.
Read Numbers 11:13-23, 31-32; Matthew 14:13-21

3. Power to break the yoke of the enemy and remove his burden from your neck belongs to God. Turn to God.
Read Isaiah 14:1-5, 24-27

4. Power to bring His word to pass belongs to God. Turn to Him.
Read Psalm 33:6-12; Genesis 1:3

5. Power to kill man and throw him into hell belongs to God. Fear God and turn to God.
Read Luke 12:2-5

6. Power to heal and restore belongs to Him. If you are sick or you have anyone sick around you or you know anyone that is sick, Turn to God and call upon Him.
Read Exodus 4: 6-7; 15:26

7. Power to deliver belongs to God. Turn to God.
Read Psalm 18:3-19; Exodus 15:11-16

The life of Daniel and his three friends, recorded in the book of Daniel, provides an example of the way faith in the power of God. When Daniel refused to cease praying to his “God,” king Darius was forced to cast him into a den of lions but the last words of King Darius before he left Daniel in the den of lions overnight expressed his hope that Daniel’s God might deliver him:
"Then the king gave orders, and Daniel was brought in and cast into the lions’ den. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Your God whom you constantly serve will Himself deliver you” (Daniel 6:16). Truly, the Lord delivered him.
When Daniel was delivered from the “power of the lions”, the king said;
"I make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdom men are to fear and tremble before the God of Daniel; for He is the living God and enduring forever, and His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed, and His dominion will be forever. He delivers and rescues and performs signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, who has also delivered Daniel from the power of the lions” (Daniel 6:26-27).

Beloved, POWER BELONGS TO GOD!
Our God is omnipotent; He is all-powerful.
This truth transformed the lives of men in the past, and it can transform our lives today. Let us turn to God and fear God, honor God, and serve God and God alone.
This week and beyond, may His power be demonstrated in your life, family and in the world in Jesus name.

2. Sevondly, David says in verses 12 that, Mercy belongs to the Lord - Psalm 62:12.
Our God is the God of mercy. It should be no surprise, then, that King David, would cast himself utterly on the mercy of God. He began his great song of confession in Psalm 51, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions” (Psalm 51:1).
When David recognized his sin against God by numbering the people, the prophet Gad gave him three options for God’s discipline:
1. “Shall three years of famine come to you in your land? Or
2. Will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or
3. Shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land?” (2 Samuel 24:13). David knew where to fall. He said: “Let us fall into the hand of the Lord, for his mercy is great; but let me not fall into the hand of man” (2 Samuel 24:14).

Micah 7:18 says, Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

1. Our God is rich in mercy. Let us turn to God today. Read Ephesians 1:1-10

2. He shows mercy to whom He will.

3. He is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16)

I urge you therefore to:

1. Thank God for His mercy.
2. Seek God’s mercy in time. Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near (Isaiah 55:6)
If you are living in any sin or you are battling with any particular sinful habit, cry out to God on time and God will save you.

3. Be encouraged to pray. 1John 1:9-10

4. Be humble and fear God.

5. Imitate God's mercy by showing mercy to others who offended you. Matthew 5:7; 6:14-15

Finally beloved, let us not forget that even though God is merciful, He is also the God of justice. Verse 12b says, "He will render to every man according to his works."
Are we to remain in sin so that grace may increase? God forbid!
Solomon in Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 says,
"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. God will judge everything we do, even what is done in secret, whether good or bad."

May God bless His Word and give us grace not just to study but to practice what we have learnt in Jesus name.

Pray....
Thank God for His Word.

Ask God to keep you from every evil way and give you grace to keep His word.

Confess every known sin

Ask God to bless you this week and all His children all over the world

Pray that God will bring Corona virus pandemic to an end quickly in Jesus name

Cover yourself with the blood of Jesus.

Benediction:
To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy, to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Have a blessed week
Shalom!
