Sunday 12th May, 2024

Read Romans 12:9-21

TOPIC: BLESS AND CURSE NOT
“Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.” (Romans 12:14)

Paul instructed the brethren in Rome to speak blessings to all men including those who persecuted them because of their faith. He affirms the fact that they were called to be a blessing to others not a curse.

Apostle Peter confirms in 1 Peter 3:9 “Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.”

It is easy to speak blessings over those who love, serve, relate well and honour you, but it takes the grace and nature of God for you to bless and do good to those who hate and persecute you. Even the wicked will bless those who bless him, but what distinguishes you as a child of God is when you overcome evil with good.

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?” (Matthew 5:44-46).

To be able to bless and not curse, the love of God must be in your heart, because blessings flow out of love. You must learn to see things the way God see them and relate with others with eternity in view. You also need to have control over the emotion of anger which often makes men to curse instead of bless.

More so, you have to learn to bless in obedience to the command of the Lord, even when you don’t feel like it. God is able to repay those who abuse and do evil to you, because He has clearly declared that vengeance belongs to Him (Romans 12:19).

Learn to be a blessing at all times. Speak blessings to others and the Lord your God will take over your battles.

Prayer: I receive grace to be a blessing to all men as God gives me opportunity and to speak blessings always, in Jesus name.

Read Genesis 39:1-23

TOPIC: FAVOUR IN THE PLACE OF SERVICE
“But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.” (Genesis 39:21)

When you serve anywhere, there should be a reward because in every labour there is a profit. (Proverbs 14:23) but unfortunately, there are many who labour without relevant blessings and profit. Mainly, this is because they lack favour in their place of service.

This was not the case with Joseph because the Lord was with him. If the Lord is with you, you will receive favour today. There are four kinds of favour a child of God needs in the place of serving God or humanity. When the preferred kindness of God is upon you, your service will be effective, acceptable and profitable.

These include:

(1) Favour before God;

(2) Favour before your boss and leaders;

(3) Favour before your equals and fellow servants;

(4) Favour before the people you serve.

Each of these dimensions of favour carries different blessings and rewards.

Joseph experienced favour in his life and everywhere he had an opportunity to serve he became outstandingly and greatly blessed. No matter what his adversaries tried to do to stop him, they could not succeed.

For Joseph, there are a few things that made him experience this favour

(a) he maintained the presence of God in his life.

(b) he lived a righteous and holy life no matter the temptation.

(c) he worked hard and efficiently in his place of service.

(d) he loved and looked for a way to be a blessing to others in the course of his service.

(e) he used his God given gifts and talents wherever and whenever he had the opportunity. If you desire to have favour in your place of service, then follow the example of Joseph and the Lord will show you His kindness and surround you with great favour according to His covenant promise.

“For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield" (Psalm 5:12)

Prayer: l receive the grace to find great favour in my place of service to God and mankind, in the name of Jesus.

Read Romans 8:5-16

TOPIC: THE SPIRIT OF GOD DWELLS IN YOU (2)
“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” (Romans 8:11)

There are many blessings that come because the Spirit of God dwells in you:

(1) You will have the abiding presence of God with you everywhere and all the time;

(2) You can be led by the Spirit of God;

(3) Your physical body will be quickened by the Spirit of God;

(4) You can be used by the Spirit of God to do the miraculous;

(5) Your physical body can be protected by the Spirit of God as a home owner protects his house;

(6) You can fellowship with God;

(7) You can now please God because His Spirit will lead you.

Only those Christians who know this truth, fellowship with the Holy Spirit of God in them and submit to His leadership, can enjoy these blessings.

Prayer: I walk in the blessings of having the Holy Spirit in me, in the name of Jesus.

The Word In Season Devotional

Sunday 5th May, 2024

Read Luke 11:1-13

TOPIC: PERSIST IN PRAYERS
“I tell you, although he will not get up and supply him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his shameless persistence and insistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.” (Luke 11:8 Amp)

Persistent prayer is when you continue to pray without giving up, until you receive an answer from God. It is a restless desire in your heart to see that every obstacle and hindrance is taken away and answers are received.

You have a responsibility to persist in faith in the place of prayers until you receive the promise.”Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.” (Hebrews 10:38-39).

To persist in prayers, you must know and believe without any iota of doubt that your help will come from the Lord alone. There should be no alternative in your heart. More-so, what you are requesting from God in prayers must be valuable to you enough to make you willing to sacrifice whatever is needed to obtain it.

You will persist in prayers when there is a burden in your heart and a hunger that is stirred up by the Holy Spirit. When your hunger to be satisfied with results is strong enough, no one will force you to persist in prayers, it will happen naturally.

Doubt and lack of faith, indifference to the needs of our lives, laziness and satanic discouragement are some of the greatest enemies of persistent prayers. Satan knowing the power of persisting in prayers does everything to distract and discourage the believer.

These can be overcome with the help of the Holy Spirit, ”Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26).

Having a prayer partner for a particular purpose in prayers can also be an encouragement as iron sharpens iron.( Proverbs 27:17). Those who know how to persist in the place of prayers, will obtain their desires like Jacob.

”And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.” (Genesis 32:24,26). Don’t give up in the place of prayers, the Lord will answer you soon.

Prayer: Lord, I receive the ability to focus, in intercession, prayer and supplication. Help me by your Holy Spirit to persist in prayers until my request becomes my experience, in Jesus name.

Saturday 4th May, 2024

Read Mark 16:15-20

TOPIC: FOCUS ON CHRIST FOR THE SUPERNATURAL
“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” (Mark 16:17-18)

There is always a source of power for the supernatural to take place in the natural space of life, God or the Devil.

For you to experience the supernatural in your life, you must have a focus. Where do you look up to, your strength for manifestation? The general temptation for humans is to focus on what they see, have tried and tested, what others have told them or proven and the system of this world.

For the believer, the bases for the supernatural, the source of our strength, and what we hope for should be Christ and Christ alone. Jesus is the way, to the supernatural experience in life. (John 14:6).

Before He ascended into heaven, He gave the command that we should believe in Him, to be able to manifest the supernatural. (Mark 16:17-18). Jesus lived a life that was supernatural while on earth and and if we have to live that life, it is expected that we believe and look up to Him.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.“ (John 14:12-14).

Why should we depend on or focus on Jesus for the supernatural:
* He is the son of God;
* By Him were all things made;
* He lived the supernatural life on earth and did the supernatural;
* He has promised to make us live supernaturally, gives power for the supernatural;
* He has been given authority that at His name every knee will bow.

Whenever we desire to see the supernatural in our lives, lets look for Jesus, use His knowledge, wisdom, power and principles. In Christ, we can walk in the supernatural.”I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:1).

There are principles and patterns in Christ and of Christ for every supernatural act you desire to see.

Christ enables the true supernatural life. Christ in you alone is the hope of a glorious supernatural life. (Colossians 1:27)

Prayer: Lord, help me by your spirit to depend totally on Christ for any supernatural experience I desire, in Jesus name.

Friday 3rd May, 2024

Read Psalm 37:23-25

TOPIC: CHEER UP, YOU WILL RISE AGAIN

"Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand" Psalm 37:24

When you give your life to Jesus, you become righteous before God. God becomes your Father, you're now His child (John 1:12).

To fall, fail or experience disappointment are temporary experiences. God, your Father is the ultimate referee in the battles of life and He will not count you out, He will not end it until you win.

Being the righteous doesn't exempt you from the challenges of life but God has promised that you will rise again. “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again" (Proverbs 24:16).

This means that when you, the righteous, fall, you should expect that God will lift you up. When Jesus was about to go to the cross, He spoke about His resurrection.

When He talked to Peter about how Satan wanted to shake him (Peter), He talked about His restoration.

God does not want any believer to lose hope, even if the situation looks dead, because Jesus can raise the dead.

The worst thing you can do to yourself, is to give up in the times of the challenges when God has not given up on you.

Every stone the devil throws at you can become a stepping stone for victory for you. See it as a reason to draw closer to God and ask for His intervention in your situation. Jesus told Martha the sister of Mary "-Thy brother shall rise again" (John 11:23).

The same word is coming to you today. Wherever you have fallen in life, you will rise again, whatever has died about you, around you and in you will come back to life in Jesus name.

Don't give up on God now, cheer up and receive the words that even though you have fallen, you will rise again.

Prayer: I receive grace from the Lord to rise against failure and defeat in all areas of my life, in Jesus name.

Read 1 Chronicles 20:4-8

TOPIC: GIANTS WILL KEEP COMING
“These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.” (1 Chronicles 20:8)

In life, even as christians, we go through so many battles and challenges. They, are the giants we face daily, they are as it were, part of life. Even the giant you kill today, has a brother who could show up the next day.

The good thing about the giants that faced the children of Israel is that no matter how many they were, they all fell by the hands of David or his servants. So it is, with the believer in Christ.

Yes, life can be full of challenges, but no matter how many they are, we are more than conquerors in Christ. ”Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” (Romans 8:37).

For us to keep overcoming the giants as promised by the scriptures, there are a few things we should hold on to:

(1) Know that the Lord who is with you is greater than the giants;

(2) Don’t be afraid of the giants no matter how they look;

(3) Don't compare the giants with yourself, rather compare them to your God;

(4) Speak and confess the victory you believe God will give to you against the giants;

(5) Come against every giant in the name of the Lord;

(6) Use the spiritual weapon you are acquainted with;

(7) Take practical steps in faith and boldness against the giants.

A a a child of God, no challenge of life will overcome you if you engage your faith and your and your mind.

Prayer: I have supernatural commanding victory in Christ, no matter the challenges of life that will come my way, in Jesus name.

Sunday 28th April, 2024

Read Luke 4:16-21

TOPIC: ANOINTING TO GO BEYOND THE LIMITS
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” (Luke 4:18)

The anointing, is the power of God that comes on you through the Holy Spirit. The anointing does the work of God in and through you. By this divine ability, you are empowered to go beyond human limitations. The anointing is the unlimited God at work, breaking every limit in and through the one who is anointed.

The unlimited and supernatural life of Jesus was propelled by the anointing. A primary role of the anointing is to break limiting yokes and set you free. (Isaiah 10:27).

We see this throughout the Scriptures. For instance, When Peter was in prison, the power of the Most High came on him, and as he encountered an angel, all the chains, doors and other limitations gave way.

The same happened when Paul and Silas were in prison, the anointing of the Lord came upon them, the chains were broken and prison doors opened. By the anointing, the shadow of Peter healed the sick and Elijah ran ahead of Ahab's chariot.

The anointing can be received hen you are passionate for God and His presence and passionate about being a blessing. Consecration will also attract the anointing.

There is an atmosphere where the anointing of God is and those who are there can benefit from it. ”But upon Mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions” (Obadiah 1:17).

”And it came to pass on a certain day, as He was teaching... And the power of the Lord was present to heal them,” (Luke 5:17).

Prayer: I take advantage of the presence of the anointing, and break every limiting factor around me, in Jesus name.

Friday 26th April, 2024

Read Psalm 92:1-5

TOPIC: GIVE THANKS UNTO THE LORD
“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord and to sing praises unto thy name O Most High” (Psalm 92:1)

Thanksgiving is the act of giving thanks to God for who He is and what He has done for us. This involves setting aside time to express appreciation to God for His benefits. It is an acknowledgment of the fact that we did not achieve what we experienced by our own strength, but by his power and grace.

Many times, we will use the loudest of voices to ask God for his benefits. It’s only reasonable to return to Him with a loud voice to say thank you when He has granted you the desires of your heart.

Don’t be like the nine lepers in Luke 17:12-19, who refused to go back to Jesus in thanksgiving after they were cleansed. Many owe God the debt of thanksgiving, and the sooner it's paid the better. Thanksgiving, is necessary.

Thanksgiving is a good thing. (Psalm 92:1). God has instructed it. (Psalm 106:1) God expects it and it is His will for us in Christ Jesus, to give thanks. (Luke 17:7, 1 Thessalonians 5:18). Moreover, ingratitude attracts curses on the blessings (Malachi 2:1-2) and being ungrateful is just like walking in unrighteousness (Hebrews 6:10).

We can thank Him alone in the place of prayers, by singing praises, by offering a sacrifice of thanksgiving. We can thank Him by sharing our testimonies with others and in the congregation of God’s people.

Thankful people are pleasant before God and men. They attract the blessings of fullness, promotion and open doors and are qualified for further blessings. When we thank Him for the little things He does, we will soon see His mighty acts.

Learn to be thankful to God and people when you receive any benefit.

Prayer: Lord, I receive a heart of thanksgiving and begin to appreciate the benefits I receive from You and from people, in Jesus name.
