METHODIST CHURCH NIGERIA DAILY REFLECTION

DATE: SATURDAY, 27TH DECEMBER, 2025.

THEME: DIVINE PRE-EMINENCE OF CHRIST

PASSAGE: COLOSSIANS 1:15–20

15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

THE MESSAGE:
The maker of anything is always greater and superior to what is made. The maker of your handset, for instance, is more knowledgeable than the handset and always knows where the handset has gone wrong when it malfunctions. In the same manner, Jesus Christ is greater than anyone, whether living or dead, no matter how great and powerful he/she may be.

Apostle Paul knows this fact very well. He says “For by Him were all things created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they are thrones or dominions, or principalities or powers. All Things were created by Him (Jesus Christ) and for Him. John also said so in John 1:3. The unknown writer of Hebrews Chapter 3 also attest to the supremacy of Christ over all great Bible Characters like Moses, Aaron, Melchizedek, etc.

Who are you, then, that you boast that nobody is like you? Who are you, man or woman that you boast that you make yourself god in your office, bullying everybody under you and threatening fire and brimstone over them? Know one thing that your Maker is supreme over you and your life is in His hands.

Let us learn from the mistakes of King Nebuchadnezzar who boasted about his might and his power instead of appreciating God's supremacy and later dwelt among beasts for seven years (Daniel 4:28-31). Nebuchadnezzar took away vessels from the Temple in Jerusalem and while drinking with his princess one concubines, saw the writing on the wall (Daniel 5:1–31); the parable of the rich fool in Luke 12:16–21 who lost his life abruptly because he did not give glory to God for riches, the story of Herod who was smitten by an angel and eaten by worms (Acts 12 :19–25) because he was glorified more than the Almighty God.

Humble yourself before God. Do not boast of your wealth, power, influence, success, etc. Always give honour, glory and adoration to God Almighty.

MEMORY VERSE: John 1:3 “All things were made by Him (Jesus) and without Him was not anything made that was made”

HYMN: MHB 8 (5.5.5.5.6.5.6.5.) O WORSHIP the King

1 O WORSHIP the king,
All glorious above;
O gratefully sing
His power and His love:
Our shield and defender,
The ancient of days,
Pavilioned in splendour,
And girded with praise.

2 O tell of His might,
O sing of His grace,
Whose robe is the light,
Whose canopy space;
His chariots of wrath
The deep thunder-clouds form,
And dark is His path
On the wings of the storm.

3 The earth with its store
Of wonders untold,
Almighty! Thy power
Hath founded of old,
Hath stablished it fast
By a changeless decree,
And round it hath cast,
Like a mantle, the sea.

4 Thy bountiful care
What tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air,
It shines in the light,
It streams from the hills,
It descends to the plain,
And sweetly distils
In the dew and the rain.

5 Frail children of dust,
And feeble as frail,
In Thee do we trust,
Nor find Thee to fail;
Thy mercies how tender,
How firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender,
Redeemer, and Friend!

6 O measureless Might!
Ineffable Love!
While angels delight
To hymn Thee above,
The humbler creation,
Though feeble their lays,
With true adoration
Shall lisp to Thy praise. Amen.

Robert Grant, 1779—1838.

PRAYER: Almighty God, remove every pride in me and always be my refuge, Strength and Deliverer in the times of trouble in Jesus' name. Amen.

METHODIST CHURCH NIGERIA DAILY REFLECTION

DATE: TUESDAY, 16TH SEPTEMBER, 2025.

THEME: PROCLAIM THE GOOD NEWS

PASSAGE: ROMANS 15:14–21

14 And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

15 Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God,

16 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

17 I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God.

18 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,

19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

20 Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation:

21 But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.

THE MESSAGE:
Dear brothers and sisters, today's devotional reminds us of the urgency and responsibility we have in proclaiming the Good News. Let us not grow complacent in our faith nor forget the purpose for which we have been created and sealed with the blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We must proclaim the gospel with passion, love and dedication. Our vision should be extended beyond the walls of our church buildings, and embrace those who have not yet experienced the love of Christ. When we do so, we become essential agents of God's redemptive plan for humanity.

In verse 14, Paul addresses the Romans Christians, acknowledging their goodness and knowledge, while also reminding them of their roles as believers. We, too, are blessed with the knowledge of Christ's redemptive work and are called to proclaim it. This privilege comes with great responsibility as we are entrusted to carry the gospel message to a world longing for truth and salvation.

Also in verses 15–16, Paul expresses his eagerness to proclaim the gospel to those who have not heard it.

Paul, in verse 17, emphasizes that the power to proclaim the gospel comes from the Holy Spirit.

As believers, we should design our vision and shoot at our target. Brethren, as we step out today, let us recommit ourselves to the task of proclaiming the Good News anywhere we go. May we encounter the Holy Spirit in a new dimension, the Holy Spirit's presence will surely guide, strengthen and empower us afresh to be effective messengers of Christ's transformative love. Let us go forth, filled with passion and compassion, shining brightly in a world filled with darkness of sin, bringing hope, peace, salvation to all those who would be saved.
Wake up now!

MEMORY VERSE: Romans 15:20 “And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man's foundation.”

HYMN: MHB 738 (S.M. and refrain.) REVIVE Thy work, O Lord

1 REVIVE Thy work, O Lord,
Thy mighty arm make bare;
Speak with the voice that wakes the dead,
And make Thy people hear.

Revive Thy work, O Lord,
While here to Thee we bow;
Descend, O gracious Lord, descend!
O come and bless us now.

2 Revive Thy work, O Lord,
Create soul-thirst for Thee;
And hungering for the Bread of Life,
O may our spirits be.

3 Revive Thy work, O Lord,
Exalt Thy precious name;
And, by the Holy Ghost, our love
For Thee and Thine inflame.

4 Revive Thy work, O Lord:
Give power unto Thy word;
Grant that Thy blessed Gospel may
In living faith be heard.

5 Revive Thy work, O Lord,
And give refreshing showers;
The glory shall be all Thine own,
The blessing, Lord, be ours.

Albert Midlane, 1825—1909.

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, empower me afresh as I embark on this divine assignment, winning more souls for Thee. Don't allow me to be a castaway in Jesus' Name. Amen.

THE BIBLE READING PLAN FOR THE DAY: Daniel 4–5; NIGHT: Daniel 6

10/06/2025

*METHODIST CHURCH NIGERIA DAILY REFLECTION*

*DATE:* TUESDAY, 10TH JUNE, 2025.

*THEME:* SELF-SUPPORT TO THE CHURCH

*PASSAGE:* 2 CORINTHIANS 11:8–15

8 I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service.

9 And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.

10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia.

11 Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.

12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

*THE MESSAGE:*
Giving is an essential part of the Christian religion. The strong are expected to upload the week while the wealthy are expected to help the poor, the widows and orphans in the Church. Christians are also encouraged to be bearers of light to those still in the dark – the unbelievers. It is a caring ministry in which every member has a role to play.

The ministry of the Church has many parts. In some areas, the Church is ‘running well’ and for others it is not. However, we need to define the term running well. This may mean that there is enough financial backup to run the Church, but in reality, running well means that the spiritual development is gaining ground and is working according to the purpose of God. However, the term ‘running well’ is mostly defined by the financial presence, infrastructural build up, location and the aesthetics of the Church. That is what many ministers want.

In our present day, there are first prophets, deceitful workers, etc, who have claimed to be apostles of Christ. For as Satan transformed himself into the angel of light, so does his ministers transform themselves into the ministers of righteousness. (1 Corinthians 11:13–15). There are ministers whose main aim of founding a church is to ‘get rich quick’ while some do so to have fame. Such ministers do not always care about the widows, orphans and the poor in the Church. This should not be the case.

Paul was a tent maker, who by this was able to support himself and be less burdensome to the Church. Some ministers of today want to transfer all their loads and problems to the Church and if the Church is not able to carry them, something goes out of the way.

The Church, must perform its duties as the Lord requires it, but ministers and pastors must not be extravagant to the extent that while the Church is doing her best, the minister seems not satisfied with the outcome and wants to go higher. Both the ministers and the members must be productive for the prosperity of the Church and for the glory of the name of the Lord.

*MEMORY VERSE:* 1 Thessalonians 2:9 “For you remember, brethren, our labour and toil; for labouring night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God”.

*HYMN:* MHB 619 (6.5 (twelve lines) FORWARD! Be our watch word

1 FORWARD! be our watchword,
Steps and voices joined;
Seek the things before us,
Not a look behind;
Burns the fiery pillar
At our army’s head;
Who shall dream of shrinking,
By our Captain led?
Forward through the desert,
Through the toil and fight;
Jordan flows before us,
Zion beams with light.

2 Glories upon glories
Hath our God prepared,
By the souls that love Him
One day to be shared;
Eye hath not beheld them
Ear hath never heard,
Nor of these hath uttered
Thought or speech a word.
Forward, ever forward,
Clad in armour bright,
Till the veil be lifted,
Till our faith be sight.

3 Far o’er yon horizon
Rise the City towers,
Where our God abideth;
That fair home is ours:
Flash the gates with jasper,
Shine the streets with gold,
Flows the gladdening river,
Shedding joys untold.
Thither, onward, thither,
In the Spirit’s might;
Pilgrims to your country,
Forward into light.

Henry Alford, 1810—71.

*PRAYER:* Lord, make me a practical instrument for You. Use me and help me never to lightly esteem the work You have given to me, but help me to always take Your work, service and worship with utmost importance, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

THE BIBLE READINGS FOR THE *DAY: Nehemiah 11;NIGHT: Nehemiah 12*

05/06/2025

*METHODIST CHURCH NIGERIA DAILY REFLECTION*

*DATE:* THURSDAY, 5TH JUNE, 2025.

*THEME:* THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY OF CHRIST

*PASSAGE:* LUKE 19:28–40

28 And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

29 And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a c**t tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.

31 And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.

32 And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.

33 And as they were loosing the c**t, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the c**t?

34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him.

35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the c**t, and they set Jesus thereon.

36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.

37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.

40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

*THE MESSAGE:*
Jesus is always meek and lowly as shown in our passage today. Whatever He does or says always comes to pass. He knew that His death on the cross was around the corner but the crowd did not know all the facts. However, when people sing your praise, beware. Those singing your praise today may turn around tomorrow to crucify you. Never put your trust in any person but in God.

Also read and compare Luke's story with those of Matthew (Matthew 21:1–11), Mark (Mark 11:1–10) and John 12:12–15.

He chose a c**t, a silent animal not usually used for such event. It was not said that Jesus had earlier made any negotiation with the owner, nor had taken any permission for its use, but He sent His disciples to go and untie it from where it was tied and had it brought to Him. This is because the triumphant entry of Christ will not be complete without that little c**t. I believe the Lord will send for you to participate in something glorious with Him this month, in Jesus' name.

You are about to get involved in a heroic, commemorative and grand ceremony that will never be forgotten in all ages. Yes the triumphal entry was about Jesus, but you will have a triumphal entry to your breakthrough this month in Jesus' name.

Note that the donkey was decorated because of Jesus, and that the paths the donkey walked was adorned with clothes (Luke 19:36) and the people shouted Hosanna, meaning “save now.” Whatever challenges and troubles around you will be solved and you will have your peace again.

All the destiny destroyers, like the Pharisees in today's text, will disappear into everlasting oblivion in Jesus name. Amen.

*MEMORY VERSE:* Luke 19:35 “Then they brought him to Jesus, and they threw their own clothes on the c**t and they set Jesus on him.”

*HYMN:* MHB 548 (8.8.8.8.8.8) ALL things are possible to him

1 ALL things are possible to him
That can in Jesu’s name believe:
Lord, I no more Thy truth blaspheme,
Thy truth I lovingly receive;
I can, I do believe in Thee,
All things are possible to me.

2 The most impossible of all
Is, that I e’er from sin should cease;
Yet shall it be, I know it shall:
Jesus, look to Thy faithfulness!
If nothing is too hard for Thee,
All things are possible to me.

3 Though earth and hell the word gainsay,
The word of God can never fail;
The Lamb shall take my sins away,
’Tis certain, though impossible;
The thing impossible shall be,
All things are possible to me.

4 All things are possible to God,
To Christ, the power of God in man,
To me, when I am all renewed,
When I in Christ am formed again,
And witness, from all sin set free,
All things are possible to me.

Charles Wesley, 1707—88.

*PRAYER:* O Lord my God, let my glory manifest before my enemies. Release me from wherever I was tied, that I may be honoured this year and evermore, in Jesus name Amen.

DAILY REFLECTION FOR TODAY, WEDNESDAY, 8TH MAY, 2024

THEME: BE HONEST AND DILIGENT
PASSAGE: 2 CORINTHIANS 8:16–24

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Corinthians 8:20-21 “Avoiding this: that anyone should blame us in this lavish gift which is administered by us; providing honourable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.”

MESSAGE: The concern that Apostle Paul raised in this passage is one thing that is missing in most people entrusted with the treasury of the church or other spheres of leadership. On daily basis, we read and hear how leaders entrusted with public treasuries embezzle/misappropriate public funds running to billion of Naira.

Apostle Paul sent Titus, an unknown brother in the Lord, and others to collect the money for charity to the poor Christians in Jerusalem.

Accountability has become a thing that is not important to some leaders, either in the church or among the political class. Some leaders take things for granted and ignore the sensibility of people on the need to be accountable in every position of authority they occupy.

Paul said their focus on handling the Church offering, is to please the Lord and keep their integrity before the people that have contributed the money for charity to the poor Christians in Jerusalem.

As much as the Church trusted Paul and his team to handle the money contributed, he was careful that there was no room for critics to speak evil of their integrity. It is unfortunate to see the way some men have turned Church funds and things dedicated to God into personal use without any remorse in their hearts.

Integrity matters a lot. As a Christian in the secular world, you should be a representative of the kingdom of Christ in a way that will promote righteousness. God sees all things, even what is done in secret.

Though the most important approval we need is from God, we cannot afford to take the people we lead for granted. They need accountability from us. When people begin to doubt you, speak with caution about you or doubt your integrity on what is entrusted into your care, check your life.

HYMN: MHB 710 BRETHREN in Christ, and well beloved

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be accountable and pleasing to You in everything entrusted into my care, in Jesus Name. Amen. Good morning, have a blessed day.

METHODIST CHURCH NIGERIA

DAILY REFLECTION

TUESDAY MAY 07, 2024

THEME: THE EFFICACY OF PRAYER

TEXT: JAMES 5:13-18

Prayer is a critical means of communication. It is the pouring of one's soul before God (1 Sam.1: 15-16). However, the tenacity of your prayer is a function of so many things. We have at different times viewed this reference of James to Elijah as a means of encouragement to us that we can also get results in the place of prayer as Elijah did.

But one part we don't usually emphasize is the kind of life Elijah lived and how he got to the point where he could pray for heaven to be shut from rain for a period of three and half years. The prayer Elijah prayed was not for personal aggrandizement but rather a challenge to the tyranny of Ahab and the idolatry that was reigning in Israel at that time.

Though we don't know so much about Prophet Elijah's background, his rising to prominence as a major prophet tells us of a man that has close walk with God. Elijah was a man of God's Spirit. We must develop our spirit man in order to command results in the place of prayer, in a magnitude akin to surpassing that of Elijah.

Prayer works but we must be ready to humbly ask God for what we need. If you don't seek, you cannot find. You have to knock, so that the door can be opened for you. If you don't knock the door, it cannot be opened unto you. Asking implies want; seeking implies that something is lost and knocking implies persistence. Therefore, ask confidently and humbly; seek carefully and diligently and knock until you get an answer.

Do away with sin and make your heart free from every idol, such as grudges, anger, hatred, evil, etc. Note that a sinner's prayer is an abomination to God but that of a righteous person avails much (James 5:15-16).

HYMN: MHB 540 - Come, my soul, thy suit prepare,

MEMORY VERSE: James 5:17 “Elijah was a man of like nature with ourselves and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months, it did not rain on the earth.”

PRAYER: Lord, I pray that you will give me the spirit of supplication and help me to become a man of prayer. Amen.
