Pentecost Retreat — Day 3: Breaking Strongholds by the Power of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the source of all true joy, and that joy was unmistakably present as the faithful gathered for the third day of the Pentecost Retreat. The day opened in a spirit of reverence and expectation, beginning with the Holy Rosary, a prayer to the Holy Spirit, and the celebration of the Holy Mass. From the very first moment, there was a sense that something deeper was being invited, a hunger for renewal, for power, and for the presence of God.
During the breaking of the Word, Sir Anietie William offered a rich and sobering reflection on what it truly means to receive the Holy Spirit. He reminded the faithful that the Spirit is not given casually; it must be desired, sought after, and prayed for earnestly. He also noted that the Spirit can be received through the laying on of hands, as occurs in the Sacrament of Confirmation, pointing to the beautiful continuity between personal longing and sacramental grace.
Sir Anietie went on to illuminate the many ways the Holy Spirit works within the life of a believer. We need the Spirit to renew us and breathe new life into our weary souls. We need the Spirit for power, for insight, and for discernment, to see clearly, to choose rightly, and to walk in freedom from every stronghold that binds us. To live without the Holy Spirit, he affirmed, is to live beneath our calling.
As the day drew to a close, the faithful left carrying more than memories of a retreat. They left carrying a renewed desire for the One who empowers, illuminates, and transforms. The call of this day was simple but urgent: open your heart, ask, and receive.
