Zambia Has Officially Declared Itself A Christian Nation
Zambia reaffirmed its powerful stand as a Christian nation during recent celebrations marking 34 years since the historic proclamation.
The declaration came on December 29, 1991, when President Frederick Chiluba boldly embedded this truth into the national constitution, setting Zambia apart as a country guided by faith. Throngs of people gathered under blooming jacaranda trees, waving Zambian flags and vibrant banners proclaiming āZambia Is A Christian Nationā next to messages about the Lion of Judah and partnering churches. Current President Hakainde Hichilema attended the event, announcing plans to establish December 29 as a permanent national holiday to honor this defining moment.
This national choice embraces Christian values such as humility, justice, compassion, repentance and hope, while upholding religious freedom for all citizens. Church leaders urged continued focus on peace, integrity in leadership, rule of law and care for the vulnerable as the real evidence of living out this declaration.
Zambias open commitment creates room for prayer, accountability and moral clarity in public life, showing that faith belongs at the heart of a nation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, as Psalm 33:12 proclaims.
