The Word In Season Devotional

Friday 22nd May, 2026

Read: Jeremiah 31:31–34

TOPIC: THE FAITHFUL GOD AND THE PROMISE OF THE NEW COVENANT

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah” Jeremiah 31:31 (ESV).

This covenant God speaks about through Jeremiah the prophet, is not written on tablets of stone, but on the hearts of His people. It emphasizes God’s faithfulness and commitment in His relationship with His children.

From God’s perspective, covenant is an expression of His unchanging nature. Numbers 23:19, reminds us: “God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind.” He initiates covenant, secures its promises, and sustains it through His steadfast love.

The New Covenant is anchored in mercy, grace, and divine initiative, ensuring that obedience and blessing, flow from a transformed heart rather than ritual compliance. Christians recognize this covenant as fulfilled in Christ.

Hebrews 8:6–10, confirms that Jesus mediates a superior covenant, establishing forgiveness and writing God’s law on hearts. The believer’s relationship with God is no longer external, dependent on ceremony, but intimate, internal, and enduring.

The Covenant calls for trust and faith. As believers, we step into the covenant by accepting Christ, relying on His promises, and aligning our lives with God’s law written on our hearts. This covenant sustains hope, strengthens identity, and provides access to God’s presence.

Reflect on God’s faithfulness in your life. Identify areas where His promises are at work, and commit to living in the reality of His covenant.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for initiating a covenant with me, written on my heart. Help me to trust Your faithfulness and walk daily in the blessings of Your promises, in Jesus’ name.

Wednesday 20th May, 2026

Read Psalm 114:1-8

TOPIC: THE PRESENCE OF GOD BRINGS REFRESHMENT AND RENEWAL

"Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water." Psalm 114:8, ESV

God’s presence refreshes, renews, and provides what is needed for life. A rock becomes a spring; flint produces water. This imagery, illustrates His ability to supply abundance where scarcity seemed permanent.

Isaiah 43:19 affirms, “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” God’s renewal is active and ongoing. It is neither passive nor symbolic.

After the new birth, 2 Corinthians 5:17, reminds believers that in Christ, we are new creations. Romans 8:28, emphasizes that God works all things together for good, for those who love Him, including situations that appear dry or lifeless.

Are you born again? Do you love the Lord? Present to God one area of life that feels depleted or stagnant. Expect Him to refresh and restore it. Meditate on Psalm 114:8 and envision His life-giving presence transforming your circumstances.

Prayer: Lord, pour out Your refreshing presence in my life. Turn every barren place into a source of abundance, and let Your wonders be evident through me, in Jesus’ name.

Read Psalm 114:1-8

TOPIC: THE PRESENCE OF GOD TRANSFORMS LIMITATIONS

"What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back? O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs?" Psalm 114:5–7 (ESV)

God’s presence, transforms limitations into opportunities for His glory. He halted the Jordan for Israel; mountains that seemed immovable yielded to His command.

Similarly, 2 Corinthians 3:17 says, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” When God’s presence enters your circumstances, obstacles bend, restrictions release, and new possibilities emerge.

In Exodus 14:21–22, the Red Sea parted and stood like a wall, on the left and right of the people, the power of God was on display over natural law, because of His presence.

In Joshua 3:14–23, when the people set out to continue their journey, as the priests carrying the Ark of His presence stepped to the edge of the water, the River Jordan stopped flowing and stood in a heap.

All Israel, passed over on dry ground into the Promised Land. Obedience and faith in His presence, enable Him to work wonders on behalf of His people.

Is there an area where you feel stuck or constrained? Invite the presence of God, trust His timing, and take a step of faith, expecting transformation.

Prayer: Lord, let Your presence transform my limitations. Open paths that seem blocked and show Your power in every area of my life, in Jesus’ name.

A powerful and impactful service as we received God’s Word on:
“𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤”
𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐡𝐮𝐚 𝟏:𝟐-𝟗

𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐠 reminded us that every assignment God gives comes with principles for success. God instructed Joshua to arise, be strong, courageous, and follow His Word carefully. In the same way, every believer has a God-given assignment that must be carried out according to divine principles.

We learned that work is anything we do that brings profit to our lives, unto God or unto man. Whether in business, career, ministry, sports, teaching, trading, or leadership, God expects us to operate according to His Word.
One major highlight from the message:
“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.”

True success does not come through compromise, lies, cheating, or ungodly practices, but through obedience to God’s principles. When we allow God’s Word to guide our actions and decisions, He promises to be with us, strengthen us, and give us good success.

It was indeed a glorious time in God’s presence filled with worship, prayers, joy, and life-transforming teachings.

Monday 18th May, 2026

Read: Psalms 114:1–8

TOPIC: THE PRESENCE OF GOD CONFRONTS FEAR

“Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob.” Psalm 114:7

An important part of life in Christ, is building an awareness of God’s presence. The presence of God influences you, the environment, and situations around you. God’s presence produces courage, steadiness, and confidence.

Psalm 114, opens with a historical reminder: God’s presence accompanied Israel out of bo***ge. Natural forces - the Red Sea, the Jordan, and even the mountains - responded to His authority.

Fear loses its power, when God is present. The impossible - waters stopping and mountains moving - becomes possible because God is sovereign. Hebrews 13:6, confirms this principle: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

Isaiah 41:10, reminds us that God strengthens and upholds us in every circumstance. God has promised never to leave nor forsake His people. That promise assures us of His enduring presence.

What situation is currently giving you concern or anxiety? Recall past moments when God intervened in your life. Those moments, remind you that His power is greater than your limitations. Declare His presence over every situation, and trust that His authority is at work on your behalf.

Prayer: Lord, confront my concerns with Your presence. Let me stand firm, knowing that You are greater than every challenge or threat, in Jesus’ name.

Sunday 17th May, 2026

Read: Psalms 29:3–11

TOPIC: THUS SAYS THE LORD (2)

“The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.” Psalm 29:4

There are several things to note about a “Thus says the Lord,” which should be considered as we respond to His voice:

1. It is accurate information.

Every “Thus says the Lord” is accurate information from a source that cannot be faulted. We serve a God, who has perfect knowledge for every situation in life. In every circumstance, we should seek to hear what God says.

2. It is superior information.

It supersedes every other report. When God speaks, every circumstance falls in line. When the voice of God enters the scene, it becomes the operating authority. This, is why you should not live in confusion or fear. Seek to hear what the Lord is saying, and when you hear, be assured that it shall be even as God has spoken.

3. It is irresistible information.

It cannot be resisted or permanently disobeyed. God’s Word must be fulfilled. Nothing is strong enough to overturn it.

4. It is confidential information.

It is not common news. Those who proclaimed “Thus says the Lord” first heard the Word in secret. God still has confidential things to share, but He looks for people with attentive ears.

5. It is interest-based information.

God speaks, because He has interest in the matter. You are precious to Him, so He does not leave your life without guidance.

6. It is revelation-based information.

It comes through divine revelation, not through worldly sources. Unless God reveals His mind, no one can speak for Him.

God’s aim is not only that we hear and receive His Word, but that we become carriers of His Word for every situation. Beyond hearing, we become the voice through which God’s Word reaches people and nations.

How long has it been since you heard a “Thus says the Lord”?

Prayer: Lord, help me to give proper attention to every word You speak and to respond with obedience, in Jesus’ name.

Read: Exodus 4:21–23

TOPIC: THUS SAYS THE LORD (1)

“Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the LORD: Israel is my firstborn son, and I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son.” Exodus 4:22–23

A “Thus says the Lord”, comes when God wants to give information or instructions to His people or to others. It comes, as a final word that should be obeyed.

Moses was to carry this word of the Lord to Pharaoh, and unfortunately Pharaoh responded by saying in Exodus 5:2, “...Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.”

Eventually, he suffered greatly and had to obey the Lord. This, is what generally happens when people refuse to obey or respond to the Word of the Lord. Whenever God speaks to you - either through His Word, His Spirit, or through His servant - it is wise to obey and avoid the consequences.

Every act of disobedience to the word of the Lord by the Israelites or by Pharaoh met with severe consequences. God honours and magnifies His Word above everything else: “...For you have magnified your word above all your name.” Psalms 138:2

When it comes to obeying God’s Word, there is no preferential treatment. When Moses, David, and Solomon disobeyed, they bore the consequences. Jesus gave a clear sign by which we may know those who love Him in Gospel of John 14:21: “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me.”

Moreover, hearing and obeying a “Thus says the Lord” shows your faith, confidence, and trust in the wisdom and sovereignty of Almighty God. Search your life and see whether there are any pending Words of the Lord about you, or instructions you heard but did not obey. Make conscious efforts to obey.

Every obedience to a “Thus says the Lord” brings blessings and an advantage to the one who obeys.

Prayer: Lord, open my ears to hear what You are saying concerning my situations and my life. Help me to obey Your Words promptly and completely, in Jesus’ name.

Friday 15th May, 2026

Read: Proverbs 14:27-35

TOPIC: ENVY ROTS THE BONES

“A sound heart is life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” Proverbs 14:30

Envy is when you have a feeling of discontent or resentment against someone else because of the person's possessions, qualities or achievements. It is more than just a desire. It is resentment at another persons advantage, success, or blessing. It grieves over another’s progress and quietly questions God’s distribution of favour.

Unlike healthy aspiration, envy carries comparison, rivalry, and concealed hostility. It destroys from within. The scripture in Proverbs does not exaggerate when it says envy “rots the bones.” Bones represent strength, structure, and vitality.

Envy, works inwardly to disturb peace, fuel stress, and stirs chronic agitation. Modern research, consistently shows that prolonged resentment and jealousy increase stress hormones, disrupt sleep, strain the heart, and weaken immunity. Scripture spoke long ago what medicine now affirms: inward disturbances affect outward health.

The New Testament provides sobering examples of the havoc envy causes. Religious leaders delivered Jesus Christ to Pilate out of envy (Matthew 27:18). Envy also surfaced among believers in Corinth, producing strife and division (1 Corinthians 3:3).

Envy, never remains contained; it spreads disorder. Envy questions God’s wisdom; faith trusts it. Envy competes; love celebrates. Envy shrinks the soul; generosity enlarges it. James warns that where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing follow (James 3:14 -16).

By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit includes love, joy, peace, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). These qualities, strengthen your inner life. A sound heart - steady, grateful, content - produces vitality.

The remedy for envy is spiritual discipline: renew the mind with truth, cultivate thanksgiving daily, bless those who prosper, and focus diligently on the work God has assigned you.

When the heart is anchored in Christ, contentment replaces corrosion. Identify one person you have compared yourself to and pray a blessing over them now.

Prayer: Lord, cleanse my heart from envy and establish in me a grateful, generous spirit, in Jesus’ name.

10/05/2026

The Word In Season Devotional

Sunday 10th May, 2026

Read John 8:1-12

TOPIC: JESUS - THE LIGHT OF LIFE

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12

These scripture means that without Jesus, anyone who lives on earth is living in darkness, can be overcome by darkness, and cannot see their way through life and its issues. This is contrary to the person who has Jesus, who cannot walk in darkness: “...he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”John 8:12.

Jesus, as the Light of life, is the source of spiritual illumination, visibility, guidance, and salvation ( John 1:5). Without Jesus, there is no true knowledge of the purpose of life, no relationship with God, and no solution to the issues of life - all of which truly give meaning to life.

Life, as we ordinarily know it is dominated by the rulers of the darkness of this world, except where Jesus, the Light, is involved. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12.

Navigating through this world of darkness requires the light that Jesus gives. This applies not only to matters considered deeply spiritual, but also to ordinary matters of life and daily decisions. With Jesus in your life, you will not be stranded or stumble in life.

“…If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” John 11:9–10

Every work of darkness evident in the world, without exception, can be destroyed and nullified by the light of Jesus. Jesus can also bring light to any area of your life where darkness formerly dominated.

To receive and engage the Light of life, you must do business with Jesus. This involves believing in Him, receiving Him into your life as your Lord and Saviour, and continually walking in obedience to His Word and Spirit.

The amount of light you experience in life will depend entirely on the depth of your personal relationship with Jesus. A shallow relationship produces little light, but a deep relationship produces great light. You must decide whether to walk in darkness in life or to have the Light of life - Jesus.

Prayer: I choose to have the light of life - Jesus. Lord, help me to strife every day to hear His word and obey His instructions for an enlightened life in Jesus’ name.
