Success is not accidental if you don't aim at it you won't hit it

“The place of knowledge cannot be over-emphasised. Everyone that knows will control those who do not know. We are in the era of knowledge and if anyone is not informed, he would be deformed. If anyone is not in the know, he cannot be in the flow.

The word for Today(by Bob & Debby Gass)

Think Unselfishly. Give Anonymously.

30 Apr 2019

‘Be interested in others.’ Philippians 2:4 TLB

Paul writes: ‘Don’t be selfish; don’t live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Don’t just think about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and in what they are doing. Your attitude should be the kind that was shown us by Jesus.’ (Philippians 2:3–5 TLB) Becoming more unselfish begins with the decision to stop thinking about yourself so much and start looking for ways to help others. If you want to become more Christlike and unselfish, start doing these two things:

(1) Put yourself in situations where people have needs. Is that risky? Sure. You risk rejection. You risk being misunderstood. You risk making mistakes. But becoming unselfish requires putting yourself in a position where you can see a person’s need and do something about it. In other words, get involved!

(2) Give quietly or anonymously. Jesus said: ‘Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in Heaven… Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.’ (Matthew 6:1–4 NLT) It’s easier to give when you receive recognition than when no one knows about it. But those who give for recognition and applause have already received any reward they will get (see Matthew 6:2). There are spiritual, mental and emotional benefits that come to those who give anonymously. Try it. The fulfilment you’ll receive will encourage you to make it a lifestyle.

Come Together

March 7

“…not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another…”

-Hebrews 10:25

One of the oldest living things in the world is the Sequoia tree. It always grows straight up and has the ability to right itself if it gets tilted. Its bark contains an acid that repels the insects and diseases that destroy most trees. It has wonderful healing qualities; if it is struck by lightning it can heal itself. And sequoia trees grow in clusters, with their roots intertwined with the roots of other trees, so they can withstand even a strong storm.

That sounds a lot like the fellowship of the church, doesn’t it? We come together in worship, we listen to one another and relate to one another. We laugh together and share one another’s sorrow. And most of all, we grow together as we devote ourselves to the fellowship of the body of Christ.

Bedstead Heart
November 4

"These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."

-2 John 16:33-17

The bedstead heart is like the old iron beds, firm on both ends, but saggy in the middle.

The person with bedstead heart is firm in receiving Christ as Savior. On the other end, he’s firm too, confident he will go to Heaven when he dies. But in the middle Mr. Bedstead Heart sags.

He sings “Victory In Jesus!,” but his personal scorecard shows mostly defeats. He "amens" when the preacher talks about “peace that passes understanding,” but experiences internal Armageddon.

The mature spiritual heart is firm throughout. It is solid in its commitment to Christ and confident of eternity with Him. And in the middle, in this life, the individual is courageous, stable, steady and firm. He or she knows that Christ overcame the world, that Christ is enthroned upon their hearts firmly and that they will not sag under the weight of daily living!

TODAY’S SPIRITUAL HEART FOCUS
Are your spiritual springs creaking under temptation? Strengthen them by meditating on what it means to you that Christ has overcome the world.

Two-Hearted Mutant
November 1

For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

-Galatians 5:17

Cows may have two stomachs, but I’ve never heard of an animal with hearts on each side of the chest. That would be a mutant.
Yet there are people who try to operate with two spiritual hearts. One attempts to be set on God, and the other on the world. They haven’t learned the principle that being the ally of the world’s values makes them automatically the enemy of God. (James 4:4)

The two spiritual hearts are like trains, one heading east and the other west. A train wreck is inevitable. The answer is to get one train on one track, one heart guided by one passion. If you hop on the train of the flesh, you will lose your spiritual energy. But if you opt for the spirit, you will have vitality from inside that fuels the flesh for doing good things.

Avoid the train wreck. Recognize that if the flesh-focused heart wins you still have a mess. Go with the heart alive with God’s Spirit.

TODAY’S SPIRITUAL HEART FOCUS
Nourish the spiritual heart and it will overcome the flesh-focused heart.

THEME: ARE YOU STILL IN THE FAITH?

MEMORISE:

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 2 Corinthians 13:5

READ: Psalm 139:21-24

21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

MESSAGE

It is possible for a person who once walked with god to drift out of the faith. This is the reason why 2 Corinthians 13:5 says:

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”

From this scripture, we see that it is possible for a person not to know that he or she is no longer in the faith, especially if such a person has become a reprobate. To become a reprobate can be likened to spiritual insanity. When a person is psychologically insane, he or she can no longer differentiate between good and evil. For example, a mad person wandering around naked will regard someone who is properly dressed as abnormal for putting on clothes. In the same way, when a child of God that has been taught to be properly dressed now begins to dress half n**e in the name of fashion, something fundamental has gone wrong in his or her life. The fellow must conduct a critical, biblical examination of his or her faith.

The Psalmist made a wise request from the Lord in Psalm 139:23-24. He asked the Lord to carry out a thorough search of his inner man to see if there is anything contrary to His nature in it. This suggests that we can pray to the Lord, as the revealer of all secrets, to reveal the true state of our hearts to us. When a reprobate person prays this prayer sincerely, God will come to his or her aid to remove the scale covering the eyes of the heart from seeing its true state. The Psalmist prayed that God should graciously find out for him any iota of wickedness that might exist in him and lead him out of it onto the way of righteousness. The easiest way the Lord does this for His genuine children is through His written word. In Psalm 119:9, the Holy Spirit revealed the secret of righteous living, saying:

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”

The word of God enables us to examine whether we are still in the faith. It acts as a mirror that shows our true state (James 1:22-25). When God’s word illuminates your ways, you will see where you might have erred (Psalm 119:105). The word does not stop at revealing sin in our lives, it also cleanses us from sin, but only if we allow it impact and change our lives (Ephesians 5:26-27). Beloved, if you sincerely want to examine if you are still in the faith, study the word.

ACTION POINT:

Pray the Psalmist’s prayer in Psalm 139:23-24.

THEME: BELATED CRIES FOR MERCY.

MEMORISE:

For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2

READ: Luke 16:19-26

19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

MESSAGE

Whether you believe it or not, the verdict of God is irrevocable: all men have sinned and come short of His glory (Romans 3:23). To escape the everlasting punishment that is the consequence of this verdict, there is the need to cry to God for mercy, obtain forgiveness and live a life of righteousness. Some may say, “I want to enjoy my life the way I deemed fit; don’t upset me with the message of doom.” May I further announce to you that there is a limited amount of time for you to cry to God for mercy on account of your sins and be heard. The Bible speaks of this limitation in Hebrews 9:27:

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

Your cry for mercy can only be heard while you are still alive on earth. You can only die once, and immediately after you die you will come face to face with God’s judgment. At this point you can no longer cry for mercy, and there will be no second chances. For this reason, the Lord is warning you today against crying for mercy belatedly.

The rich man in today’s Bible text is an example of someone who belatedly cried for mercy. His cries came after he had closed his eyes in death. Hear his plea to Abraham in Luke 16:23-24:

“And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.”

Alas, it was too late. The rich man’s cries could have been heard if they had been expressed while he was still alive, but he ignored the warnings of God sent through His messengers. On the other hand, the publican in Luke 18:9-14 is a good example of one cried for mercy while he could be heard. The cry for mercy of the thief at Jesus’ side on the cross also came in the nick of time, before he gave up the ghost. Beloved, today’s memory verse is food for thought that I want you to consider. If you have never asked God to forgive your sins, do it now for the salvation of your soul. I can assure you that it is either you cry for mercy here and obtain salvation, which is timely, or you will cry for mercy in the hereafter, which will be too late.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, have mercy on me; please forgive me and help me never to do again those things that will send me to eternal torment.

HYMN 3: WHAT CAN WASH AWAY MY SINS?

1. What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

o Refrain:
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

2. For my cleansing this I see,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my pardon this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
