*David anointed King over Judah*
2 Samuel 2:1-17. Q2

*Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 1: One major unique quality of David the man after God's heart is that he hardly would do anything without first confirming from God and he would press on to get specific details. Our relationship with God will be enhanced if we consistently and patiently seek to know the will and leading of God.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 2-4: David's prompt obedience to divine leading resulted to his being crowned king over Judah. Even when we do not properly understand why God has given a particular instruction, we are still very safe if we promptly obey all that God has said. This is an example for us to follow.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 5-7: David appreciated the kind gesture of the people of Jabesh Gilead towards Saul, Saul was a Benjamite, hence his people should have been the one to ensure their Son receives a decent funeral, but they slacked or were not interested but the people of Jabesh Gilead stepped into the action. We are also encouraged to go out of our way to help people around us in times of their needs as the Lord leads us. Especially when those who should do it have refused or turn it down. Boaz married Ruth when the nearest king's man refused the offer. Sometimes selfish interest do not allow people throw themselves into certain responsibilities.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 8-11: It would appears as if Abner was securing what he considered as the inheritance of his boss. But the question is, how sincere is this action of his? Is he not using this as a means to achieve his selfish desire and pursuit?. If allowed, Abner would want David to come under his own authority.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 12-17: This is an example we should not follow. Abner is testing powers with the lives of innocent people. Who will account for all the innocent lives that have been wasted because two leaders are testing themselves to know who is more powerful.

Blessed Holy Spirit, please help us to enquire always from you and to follow your leading in all things, this we pray for in Jesus Christ name Amen.

*David's lament for Saul and Jonathan*
2 Sam 1:17-27. Qs 2,7

*Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 17: This is a practical example for us to follow. Contrary to what is obtained from several church pulpits where people spend time to sing and dance to celebrate the death of their enemies, David a man after God's own heart would not celebrate the death of Saul who made several deliberate physical efforts to kill him. The understanding that Saul would not waste any second to kill David if the opportunity was available does not require revelation it was obvious. Yet David publicly lamented over his death. Revive your church oh Lord.

When death takes the life of someone we perceived has died in sin, there is no reason to rejoice because the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on that life has been wasted. If we are friends and partners with Jesus Christ indeed then we should not rejoice over what causes Him pains. What makes Jesus glad if we care to know is that all men should be saved.

If for any reason He decides to judge the wicked even unto death, it is not still a reason for celebration.

Back in the days, women normally weep in church when a member is overtaken by sin and is suspended. They cry because the enemy had a chance to prevail over a soul. *Revive your church oh Lord.*

πŸ‘‰verses verses 19,25&27: Thrice, David acknowledged King Saul and Jonathan as the mighty that has fallen. He was not just lamenting but was deeply expressing the loss the Army of Israel has suffered on account of this death.

πŸ‘‰ Verse 19: *The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!* Imagine this expression about Saul from David. Saul and Jonathan are described as the beauty of Israel not as the witch of Israel. This is an example to follow.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 20-22: David prohibited the information about the downfall of a supposed enemy from being spread. He would not want the real enemies of Israel to mock the fallen hero. This looks strange, in our time, people will volunteer to pay for national and social media publication so that everyone will know that this mighty man has eventually fallen. Some preachers will want to take the glory as the one who declared that the enemy will soon be out of the way. Revive your church oh Lord.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 23-24: David describes the unity between Saul and Jonathan, he calls upon the women of Israel to mourn for these great men. Revive your church oh Lord.

*What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?*

πŸ‘‰ Verses 24-27: Genuine brotherly love is real. As brethren we can be sincerely and sacrificially knitted together. No political, economic, social, religious bias should separate us. Our stand point must be on the truth as revealed by the Spirit of God. Jonathan was persuaded that God had given David the throne after his father. He never was mad towards David neither was he mad towards God for denying him kingship.

As we name our children Jonathan, we should draw their ears to the selfless and Christ centered love and maturity Jonathan possessed and lived for.

Jonathan was so brave, at one time, he went alone with his armour bearer trusting the Lord and God gave them victory.

Blessed Holy Spirit please bring revival in your church and help us to serve you faithfully and sincerely, loving one another as ourselves, this we pray for in Jesus Christ name Amen.

*Desire for recognition*
2 Sam 1:1-16. Qs 2,5

*Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 1-4: This is an example we should not follow. The person reporting this to the king was not sent. It was not his duty either as a family member or a member of the king's cabinet. We should not usurp certain responsibilities that ideally we have no business with. In these days of content creation and pursuit of increased followership on social media for monetary reasons people want to be the first to publish certain information and this can bring disaster when it backfires.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 6-10: When a person is overtaken with a desire for recognition it could lead the person into circulating false information. We should not for reasons of personal gain confess or declare things that are not true.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 11-12: This is a good example for us to follow. We should not rejoice when evil befall anyone. Despite the distress that Saul brought on David, David mourned seriously for the death of Saul and Jonathan. This is an example for us to follow.

*Is there any warning for us to heed?*

πŸ‘‰ Verses 13-16: We may calculate our sinful acts but we cannot successfully calculate the consequences. God alone determines the commensurate consequences for every action of man. If the man saw this death ahead, the desire for recognition would have died naturally.

Dear Father, please help us to submit to the cross for the full effect of the death of the selflife and all its activities so that our soul will be preserved for eternal glory, this we pray for in Jesus Christ name Amen.

*Trust in the true and living God*
Psalm 115:1-18. Qs1,2,5

*What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 1: Mercy and Truth only comes from God, unto Him alone be all glory AMEN.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 15-18; We owe all our praises and thanksgiving to the Lord, for He alone made the Heaven and the Earth.

As long as we have breathe of life, we should bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall not depart out of our mouths.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 9-11: The Lord is our help and shield. In whatever situation we have found ourselves in this morning, we have an assurance that God makes a way for us. We need not be discouraged, we need not faint or lose hope, Not all. The Lord is our help in all circumstances, the Lord is our shield from all our fears. He will help us and He will shield us from evil and from all plots and schemes of the wicked.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 12-14: It is very refreshing to hear that the Lord will bless us, as we continue to fear Him, He will without fail bless us. He will increase us more and more. Hallelujah. This is a great promise for us to believe and hope for.

*Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 9-11; We are to trust in the Lord who is our help and shield. We are to trust that He will never fail and He will never disappoint us. Even when it appears that all hope is gone, we should still trust in the Lord. David wrote some of these Psalms out of his own very personal experience with God. Several times Saul had closed in on David to finish him but all of a sudden, something happened and David escaped and even had the opportunity to kill Saul but spared him. God can be trusted and we should trust Him.

*Is there any warning for us to heed?*

πŸ‘‰Verses 4-8: We are warned against following and worshipping idols. Our loyalty, devotion, dedication must be to God and to Him alone. We must guard against anything that wants to separate us from God. Be it money, relationships, fashion, trends, tradition, career etc

Dear Father, please help us to navigate through this world by trusting you to guide us step by step all the days of our lives in Jesus Christ name Amen.

*Jesus dispel's the disciples doubt*
Luke 24:36-53.Qs 1,7,8

*What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit?*

πŸ‘‰verse 36: Our Lord Jesus does not want us to live with anxiety or a disorganized heart, no matter the situation we find ourselves. On this His first visit to His disciples, He made it the number one agenda to give them peace. *Peace be unto you* He said unto them and as we are studying this morning, He is also releasing this same Peace into our lives and situations right now, Amen.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 37-43: Jesus took time to reveal Himself to them as the risen Lord. Whatever doubts that exit in your heart about the reality of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, may this persuasive and undeniable proof help your life in Jesus Christ name Amen. Jesus truly resurrected from the grave.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 44 is confirmation of John 5:39 which points to the truth that Jesus Christ is the central message of the scriptures. The highest revelation anyone can get from indepth study of the scriptures is to gain understanding and knowledge about the person of Jesus Christ. When we miss Christ but catch empty rhema and high sounding doctrines then we shall have nothing with which we can help anyone. The entire scripture was necessary because God needs to recover the total man to become the original image of God and to be restored into the original purpose. As found in Genesis 1:26-28.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 46-48 is in agreement with Acts 4:12. Jesus is the only name by which anyone shall be saved. The message of His suffering, death, burial, resurrection remains the most important tool towards converting any erring person back to the loving arms of God. See also 1 Cor 15:1-4.

*What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 37,41: Doubt and unbelief can only make us to be fearful and to be terrified and frightened. When we genuinely believe that Jesus Christ is no longer in the grave but He currently sits with the Father in heaven, it wipes away every fear and every doubt. It makes us live with boldness not arrogance, because our Saviour and Redeemer is, up there.

πŸ‘‰ Verse 45: We must continue to read, study and meditate on the word of God, but the level of impact it will bring to us depends on, if our understanding has been opened. Interacting with the letters makes us familiar or conversant with the scriptures, but interacting through the Spirit gives us in-depth understanding of the scriptures. John 14:26 and John 16:13 makes it clear that the major role of the Holy Spirit is to reveal Jesus to us and one of the major avenues is through the word.

Thus our prayers always remain *open our ears oh Lord that we might behold wonderful things out of thy word in Jesus name Amen* this wonderful thing is simply more of Jesus.

πŸ‘‰ Verse 49: No matter how zealous we become about spreading the gospel and making Christ known and getting sinners to be saved and discipled, we are not permitted to take any step without being empowered by the Holy Spirit. Our Lord Jesus actually told them; *tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.* Let not zeal make anyone attempt to do the work of God with the power of the flesh and not the power from on high. It will be counter productive

πŸ‘‰ Verses 50-53: Hallelujah!, Jesus Christ our Lord ascended into Heaven and there is no doubt about it. We have every reason to rejoice, worship and give thanks to God.

*Is there any other biblical passage that can help me to understand this passage better?*

πŸ‘‰ Acts 1:9-11 gives us a summary report of the ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. There is vivid confirmation that He shall return in like manner as He was seen being taken into Heaven. Do you believe the second coming of Jesus? Are you living ready for His return?

Dear Lord Jesus, please help us to follow the examples you have left for us so that at your appearing we shall be ready for you, this we pray for in Jesus Christ name Amen.

*God's mercy amidst judgement*
Jeremiah 52:17-34. Qs1,2,5,7.

*What does the passage teach about God the Father God, the Son and God the Holy Spirit?*

πŸ‘‰ Verses 17-22: We can now understand better why the judgement of God was so intense against Babylon. Look again at Jeremiah 51:64 *And thou shall say, thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah* This chapter 52 of Jeremiah was significantly reserved so that having read God's judgement towards Babylon we can see that God is justified. Beloved God can sometimes allow the wicked to prosper in his or her evil practices, sometimes God can allow His people to be wasted as we see happening in the North, and some part of the country, yes there is sin in the land, but we mortals are not permitted to waste lives. God will watch quietly but when His judgement comes it will be severe.

For us as God's children, we need not hide under the loving kindness of God to live in rebellion against God, God can severely discipline or punish His own children. We just have to fear God and obey His commands.

*Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?*

πŸ‘‰ Verses 17-22: There are two examples we should not follow; meddling with items that are devoted to God. We should honour God and distance ourselves from mishandling or misusing the things of God. Secondly when God said touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm, He meant it and we should respect that and obey it. They carried God's people and killed some even when they did not resist going into captivity. Seraiah the chief priest was among those killed. We should not follow such examples.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 31-34: This is an example for us to follow. We first must acknowledge that this is God at work. Secondly we also note that King Evil-merodach did something good and not evil. He lifted the king of Judah who had been in prison and brought him out to join him daily at the table. We are to do unto others those good things we desire others should do unto us.

*Is there any warning for us to heed?*

πŸ‘‰ Verses 17-30 brings a reminder to us that as children of God, we should not take God for a ride, we should not take His instructions for granted. Ecclesiastics 12:13-14 encourages us to fear God and keep His commandments as our whole duty on earth. This is something we ought not to be careless about. No matter how we feel or what we are going through in life, the wisest thing to do on earth is to fear God and to obey Him. Hebrew 12:29 gives us the reason, for God is a consuming fire.

*What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?*

πŸ‘‰ Verses 23-30: Although some people were killed but God spared some people. It is God who decides who to show mercy. His mercy can be expressed at any time and in any situation as the Lord dims fit.

πŸ‘‰verse 31-34: By divine mercy, the king of Judah who had been in prison was brought out to eat with the king of Babylon. This again is a demonstration of the mercy of God.

Heavenly Father, please help us to honour, respect and fear you as God so that we shall daily live in obedience to your word all the days of our lives in Jesus Christ name Amen.

*God declares the end of Babylon*
Jeremiah 51:25-51. Qs 1,5,7

*What does the passage teach about God the Father God, the Son and God the Holy Spirit?*

πŸ‘‰ Verses 27-44: God vows to wipe out Babylon with a changeless decree. God says every purpose against Babylon shall be performed against them. This means there is no going back nor reconsideration. This is an aspect of God that we do not always take into consideration. The reason the fear of God is no longer as rampant as it used to be is because of the emphasis on the love and mercy of God neglecting the fear of God. Actually the Bible says the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Two things can make a person wise: one is the fear of God and the second is the matter of soul winning. It is the fear of God that makes us aggressive and persuasive soul winners, because we know about the wrath of God on anyone who died without Christ including friends, colleagues and relatives and we would not want anyone to experience it.

*Is there any warning for me to heed?*

πŸ‘‰ Verses 25-26,50-51: Babylon overstepped their boundaries, they raised down the wall of Jerusalem and fearlessly entered the temple of God, looted things and destroyed things. This is a warning we should heed. The lesson is to do unto others as we would love them to do unto us. Even when we have the privilege to discipline anyone, we should do it with a heart of mercy, love and compassion. We have all made one mistake or another, in one situation or the other hence the need to be compassionate and seek restoration much more.

*What truth is God revealing to us in this passage?*

πŸ‘‰ Verses 46-49: Life is full of actions, rewards or consequences. We need to live cautiously so that we do not by any chance do something that will bring severe judgement and condemnation. Babylon is simply harvesting the dividend of their investments over the years. Certainly they never imagined that such a thing could come upon them. But we have heard what happened to them afterwards and we should learn to relate with God and others around us in a better way being guided by the fear of God.

Blessed Holy Spirit, please fill us with your wisdom, to help us live wisely in this our days of pilgrimage, this we pray for in Jesus Christ name Amen.

*God's Justice and faithfulness*
Jeremiah 51:1-24.Qs1,4,5

*What does this passage about God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 1-4: God's vengeance is for a just cause. He is fighting against people that rose up against Him. He is paying them back with their own coin.

πŸ‘‰verse 15: God made the earth by His power, established it by His wisdom and stretched out the heaven by His understanding. The power of God, the wisdom of God and the understanding that flows from God are powerful instruments for effective godly living on the earth. We should desire to also operate in these possibilities.

*Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?*

πŸ‘‰ Verses 20-23; God has announced His plan for this last days. God is not going to come down physically to handle situations and circumstances. The reason we are to be raised as disciples of Jesus and properly trained as kingdom soldiers is because the Lord will pass through us to accomplish His mission on the earth.

The revival that will usher in the return of our Lord Jesus Christ needs men and women whose lives have been purged of all selfish living, whose essence for living is nothing else but to live for Christ and to die for Him. For in the day of His power, His people shall be will. The psalmist did say in Psalm 127:1-5 that God is delighted to have us fill His quiver because we shall contend with the enemies at the gate.

*What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 6: The easiest way to be at peace with God is to depart from evil. To turn away from sin and sinful behaviors and be separated unto the Lord our God. We must keep pressing towards the mark of our high calling in Jesus Christ.

πŸ‘‰ Verses 7-14,16,24.
When the anger of God is risen upon a person, a family, a nation, an organization etc, there will be no remedy. Look at the efforts to bring healing to Babylon but they could not be healed because their matter is against the Lord. When God is the one fighting a person, who can dare to interfere. It is not the city of Babylon that offended God, it is the people living in Babylon. It is the sin and rebellion of the people that brings curses and judgement on the land. When Adam sinned the land became cursed.

Our attitude towards God defines the outcome and spiritual climate of our environment.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your mercy, please help us by your Spirit to repent from all ungodliness and to live in obedience to your word all the days of our lives in Jesus Christ name Amen.

*God's people will be delivered*
Jeremiah 50:33-46. Qs.1,2,4

*What does the passage teach about God the Father God, the Son and God the Holy Spirit?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 34: The Lord our Redeemer is strong and the Lord of Host is His name. This is the wholesome truth. God himself had said in Isaiah 59:1-2 that His hand is not short to deliver neither is His ear heavy that He cannot hear... This goes on to help us understand the ability of God to deliver and to save us from every situation of life. He does not need to take permission from anyone, He does not need to form a committee or raise a team of warriors before He can do anything. He is a self sufficient God. Ephesians 3:20 captures it thus: *Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the (action of His) power that is at work within us, is able to (carry out His purpose and) do superabundantly, far over and above all that we (dare) ask or think (infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes or dream)* hallelujah!

πŸ‘‰verse 35-46: God is thorough in His judgement and discipline. Babylon was sentenced to complete wipe out. It is actually a fearful thing to become an opposition to the Almighty God. The earth and the fullness thereof belongs to Him. There is no means of escape when God begins to deal with a person and there is nothing like the supreme Court to appeal your matter because of the supremacy of God. Wisdom teaches us to fear God.

*Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 43: Unlike the king of Nineveh when he heard the judgement of God, the king of Babylon heard the report but rather can cry out to God and cause His people to fast and pray and mourn for their sins perhaps God will forgive and not destroy them. The king of Babylon was rather overwhelmed with fear. Brethren we must guard and guide against this attitude, when we hear certain reports, we should not succumb and begin to panic, every situation we find ourselves in, should be taken to the Lord and leave it there. He actually knows all that we are facing but has required that we should rather bring it to him. May fear not make us fail to take our matters to the Lord and trust him to see us through.

*Is there any promise for me to believe or to hope for?*

πŸ‘‰ Verse 33-34: The Lord is our Saviour and Deliverer. We are not alone. We shall indeed look up to the hills from whence comes our help, our help comes from the Lord the maker of heaven and earth.

Dear Father, may we also experience this mighty deliverance in all areas of our lives this day and beyond in Jesus Christ name Amen.
